tj154906
My hookah tipped over on me for the first time ever tonight. I've been really careful up to this point, but misfortune has finally caught up with me. My 32" egyptian was sitting on the floor and smoking as good as it ever has (Romman Grape with Cran-Rasberry juice in the base, small glass funnel with scalli mod). I was sitting in my mothers chair and had my feet out on the ottoman when my dog barged into the room, all riled up for one reason for another, and attempted to hop his fat ass up onto the ottoman. He bumped the hookah and tipped it knocking both of the 3 kings coals onto the ottoman. I couldn't find my tongs right at the moment (they got knocked between the chair and ottoman during the scramble) so I picked both coals up with my fingers and sustained some fairly painful burns on my right thumb and forefinger. The coals left two decent scorch marks in the ottoman. I cleaned them up the best I could, but I know she'll notice, she sits here everyday. I'll probably tell her tomorrow. I just don't want to give her another reason to give me hell about my hookah.... bah.

talksrealfast
This seems like one of the few areas of the hookah experience that has yet to be fully "fixed" and fleshed out. This is probably one of the best places to brainstorm a way to keep coals from falling off the edge of a bowl. So here's a good question: What are some good ideas to keep a coal (or maybe even two or three) on the edge of a bowl, even if it were to tip over? Here's my idea to kick it off. It's basically a windscreen but wider so that the coals can easily hang off the edge of a bowl. Also, the windscreen would lock into place on the ashtray (there are several ways that could work). That way, should the hookah tip, the coal would likely fall inside of the windscreen instead of bouncing out onto the carpet.Do you guys have any good ideas? You're all pretty smart people. They don't work all that badly either...just have to adjust your coals from what you are used to because it traps the heat better.

I actually saw these a while ago and wrote them off as being unusable in my situation. I'm not a huge fan of screens, and even if I was, I usually move my coals around the edge, and this would prevent that. I'd be all for getting one of these though if I knew how to properly use it. Any tips?

Any tips?I had one for a long time, and they work quite well until the hinge starts getting funky. Even then, it just takes more effort to open and close.Basically, using that cover you can torch your tobacco with 1 quicklight. I suggest using about half of what you normally use if you close the lid.
mushrat
the screen is removable, you can probably still use foil with a little creative wrapping. And follow cal's advice, these suckers trap a LOT of heat so go easy on the coal. Also have a hot mit or somthing on hand cause the latch gets HOT! ezie
Sorry to hear your story man and i know how it feels. Anyway you could always use the ultimate bowl like mushrat link. That can come in handy when foil is not available. Peace have a nice day.
