Ehagen8008
for some reason no matter what shisha (actually my new layalina is worse about it than the nakhla ive used before) i use or how full i pack the bowl...the tobacco always gets stuck to the foil...its really not a whole big deal besides the fact that i gotta open it up and get rid of the burnt stuff on the foil every 20 mins or so...it never puts out the coal or seems to taste bad until the stuff is burnt on the foil...but im tired of having to do that...am i packing it too lightly? do i need to make it not so loose?i dont always poke through the tobacco when i poke holes in the foil...does it help it from not sticking to do that?? tingjunkie
I would suggest leaving a good 1/4 inch of room between the shisha and the foil. Also, pull the foil REAL tight around the bowl and hold it tight while punching holes in it. If the shisha is sticking to the foil, then it's obviously touching the foil at some point during the smoke. For what it's worth, I almost always end up with shisha stuck to the foil by the end of a session, but it doesn't seem to make my sessions harsh. I don't seem to notice any difference at all actually. If your session is getting too harsh, it usually is because there is too much heat on the bowl. Try using less coal next time. I don't find sticking shisha to be a problem personally. Edited June 19, 2007 by tingjunkie

tingjunkie
Yes, taking too many puffs in quick succession will certainly heat the tobacco up too much. Under those conditions, the shisha gets hotter and hotter and... well you get the picture. For a nice smooth smoke (I think) the tobacco really needs time to cool back down between pulls. If I'm smoking by myself, I try to only take about one good pull every 1-2 minutes. Of course when smoking in groups this isn't very practical. In those cases, I like to see a good 20-30 second gap between pulls. It will make a big difference.Don't forget to purge the chamber every few minutes too. Get rid of that stale flavorless smoke! As I said, if the shisha doesn't touch the foil then it can't stick... that's pretty self-evident. Maybe you should try poking the holes in the foil before putting the shisha in the bowl. Perhaps when you poke the holes you are unintentionally pushing the foil on to the shisha, or spearing the tobacco and pulling it up to the foil when you withdraw the poker? That would be my guess.Or, is it possible that you don't poke enough holes in the foil, and when you take a draw the foil gets sucked down on to the shisha? That's another possibility.I guess if all else fails, then just buy a rigid metal screen. Edited June 19, 2007 by tingjunkie

tj154906
I always seem to have shisha burnt/stuck to the bottom of the foil when I'm done smoking, but it never seems to effect the quality of my smoke..
