The Lytic Cycle
Well, I use King Charcoal, which is natural charcoal and I'm quite satisfied with it. I'm not familiar with Planet Charcoal, but I can buy a King Charcoal 2.2 pound pack for at least $4.00 at a smoke shop called "World Smoke Shop" in Anaheim, CA near Fusion Cafe. Mathazar
plzzzzzzz someone fill me in on the planet hookah charcoal lol
Well, what is there to say? It's got a cool-looking bag, and the coal looks identical to Nour Finger Coals. Sorry I can't be of more help
yashman19
I recomend staying away from the planet coals. I've used Nour Fingers for over a year now and love them. They take a while to get going if you don't have access to a stove or a torch, but they leave no oder, and burn and ash very nicely. But my local store stoped carying them and started carying the Planet Coals. I thought I'd try them out seeing as how they look pretty close to the same as Nour Fingers. Bad mistake. They burn and ash very similar to Nour Fingers, which is a plus, but leave an incredible oder to the tobacco. Even when the coal is fully lit and there is no black showing, they still taste like poop.
hookaman
oo ok thx cuz the store i usually go to doesnt have nours anymore yet, and this new store i found has those japanese square coals called golden coals. I thought of using those japanese golden coals, any thoughts?
MR Bubble
I've had a couple different "Japanese" coals before. The Goldens you referenced above, from what I remember are decent. There are an imitation Japanese brand (I believe called Easy-Lite) that is a little skunky, but I think the Golden are pretty good. If you do get them, let us know when they arrive and I'll give you some hints on how I set them up. MR Bubble
hookaman
ok im gna buy them later on, how am i supposed to set them up?
MR Bubble
Each charcoal square is roughly 1 inch x 1 inch (and I mean roughly). I take 2 of these square pieces and half each one with a serrated steak knife. Now you have 4 thin rectangles. I drop 3 of them in my sour kraut can on the stove top and let them get all toasty red while I'm building my bowl. When lit really well (about 5 or so minutes) I take them and lay them on the bowl. If you are looking down on the bowl from above, it looks like I arranged them in a triangle. I guess you could lay them side-by-side across the bowl too if you want to. Who knows? It may work better that way, but I always had good luck with the 3 one-half pieces in the triangle pattern. Oh, this is not too easy either. You want to saw them about half way through, then snap them in half. If you have good quality Japanese coals, they will be difficult to snap. If you have the cheaper, skuny ones, they will snap too easy and not have a clean break, causing a mess. Hope you decipher my garbled message and good luck, MR Bubble
Rapmaster
These are triangles, not cubes
hookaman
oh thx that seems effective... but two more questions, how long does this method last? i mean wotn those small pieces finish quick? and one more question what is your suggested hole pattern for that method you described.(small, big and any patterns or numbers of holes)
MR Bubble
I remember them lasting maybe about as long as a 3 kings. Now, when the smoke gets weak, just heat up the remaining little rectangle and plop it down on top of the 3 weak coals. That's good for a few extra minutes. Hole pattern? Well, what works for you now? Just take it from there, since my patterns have changed over the years and I forgot exactly which ones I was using back then. Hole patterns for me are based alot on the desired airflow, therefor, it is a personal matter. I like a good, free airflow. I'd say within 4 bowls, you will figure out what you like with these. I think these are much easier to use than say, lemon wood coals. You'll see. MR Bubble
MR Bubble
Another suggestion would be to cut each square diagonally. So instead of rectangles, you end up with triangles. Then you may want to place them on the bowl with the Apex (correct term?) of 4 pieces pointe inward. That would look similar to how I manipuate my 3 kings. Look out since that is only an idea I just came up with and may burn the poop out of your tobacco! I'll give it a shot next time I get Japanese coals. hookaman
that all seems good but too much work cutting the charcoal and stuff, cant i just do this, snap the seperate pieces but from a stick with 4 charcoals on it snap one seperate and snap a piece with 2 charcoals on it and arrange it like a triangle. like this ----|---- -----
