Anyone Use A "split" Ceramic Bowl?

Recommended Posts

I bought a "split" ceramic bowl, with a divider down the middle. I figured I could put two different types of tobacco in the two halves. Problem is, my metal screen does not "ride" properly on the bowl, and the tobacco never reached proper temperature. I am going to try it again ,with foil, I figure I can "mold" the foil over the divider bar, and get the coals closer to the two different tobaccos.

If anyone has met success or failure with a split-bowl, please let me know.

I don't personally have one, but at the hookah lounge I go to they have been experimenting with them. It seems like there is a little more coal maintenance that goes on but the flavor can be easily toyed with. I had a half lemon, half mint havana mix there and it smoked alright. The only problem I found was that if the bowl was packed unevenly, which this was, you'll get a lot more pull from one side and the flavor overpowers the other.

I think with proper coal management and a good bowl pack, this could work alright. The only thing I worry about is the depth of the bowls, but I prefer shallow bowls for my shisha.

The problem is that tobacco mixes are not always 50/50. So, you can either always mix it 50/50 (or 33/33/33 or 25/25/25/25, they make 3 and 4 chambered ones) or you can underpack one side, which will make that side smoke lighter, so it will be a complex, shifting set of variables...just get a standard bowl and mix tobacco.
