Horrible Session From My Vortex

well i had friends over last night so i figured it would be a good time to whip out my brand new mya vortex for the first time. I loaded the bowl with starbuzz white grape (which i loved when i smoked it alone with my mya qt). The taste was HORRRIBLE, i couldnt believe it.. it diddnt taste like the white grape i had smoked just the night before by my self... I cant really even explain the taste, but it was bad. So i ditched that bowl, and tried smoking a bowl of starbuzz peach, it also tasted horrible.

Iam assuming it has somthing to do with the hookah, but iam not sure what, i washed everything out when i got the hookah so iam not sure what is causing the horrible taste.

The only thing i can think of, now that iam writing this is i never washed the hose out, so maybe that could be what was giving the horrible taste? the hose was brand new. Edited June 23, 2007 by clickhea

Damn that sucks. Guess it is the hose then. It doesn't smell like that bad taste?

Try sucking on the hose without it being attached to the hookah and see if it tastes bad, Then also try just sucking on the hookah without the hose and see if it tastes bad. But dont have a bowl going or anything.

first what kind of coals are u using?
then is your stem clean
if not cleen it with a stem brush and some hot watter and lemon juice
then once that is clean
put a 1/4 cup of regular bleach in the base with some dish deturgent of your chouice... then fill it up with piping hot water. clean and scrub it with your glass bruch or what i like to use is go buy a new toilet scrub brush from the 99cents store. NEW one! lol
then if you are using a washable hose wash it.. dry it and pack your head light!
i also sugest using natural coal that is completely lit and that should bring your flavor back.

Whenever I've had a bad-tasting session it's either because I haven't cleaned my stem out well enough or because I have to use cheap coals. I would probably give everything a good scurbbing and make sure you're not using dirt coals.

i was using 3 kings quick lights (which is what i use mostly) so i doubt this was the problem.

i'll try cleaning everything again, maybe i'll try using my old hose as wel (the one i use with my qt)

i tried smelling the other hose which came with the set.. and it has a very weird smell to it, so iam guessing this is what the problem may be.. iam gonan try washing both hoses along with the entire hookah and pray it fixes the problem.


its okay to use bleach in somthing ur going to smoke out of?

I wouldnt use bleach. Use lemon juice or baking soda

Yeah, using bleach is a bad scene...bleach and glycerine mix together and form chlorine gas , which when mixes with the moisture in your lungs forms hydrocholric acid. I saw a guy inhale, in a lab accident, phosgene, which also has the end product of hydrochloric acid, the building was evacuated and he was sitting down, I talked to him and a minute or two after I walked away, he started projectile vomiting blood. He was in an oxygen tent for a month and out of work for 2.5 months.

I like beer as a cleaning solution. Its gives you a good excuse to ask your parents for beer. The alcohol in beer cleans very nicely. Also, 10% rubbing alcohol, 90% water should work well. Lemon juice, vinegar work well and neutralize nicotine.

The problem is there are water-insoluble things that have lost their solvent and accumulate like a greenish-black rubbery growth. Its disgusting. Leave that stuff inside your jar accumulate, and it will get to the point its an actual growth. It feels like a fake latex piece of makeup, but it comes from our hookahs. Anywhere there's hookah smoke, there's accumulations of these things building up. The smoke may have a tendency to dissolve some of it and make it taste bad. Imagine you have to clean every tiny little place where smoke goes through your pipe to remove this stuff...now clean those spots with cool water and a brush.

Thats why I don't like those common chamber pipes...how do you clean inside the bell? Edited June 24, 2007 by Sonthert

yeah i saw a guy inhale the gas made from liquid chlorine + muriatic acid (HCl) which makes basically mustard gas... he managed to get outta the building, but projectile vomiting, dropped on the ground seizing..... it was quite disturbing.

I second the beer cleaning also... =)

Mustard gas is bis(2-Chloroethane)sulfide. Chlorine gas, exposed to water turns into muriatic acid. Muriatic acid and chlorine gas is just too dry muriatic acid.
