Sonthert
Hello. Lots of confusion regarding the phunnel and the phunnel mods that several retailers are selling. I would like to clarify my position as to what I would recommend to buy/use as a head, from the three types of Tangiers Bowls available out there.Standard Bowls (inc. Tangiers Standards): Good all around:Phunnel Bowl. Fine for a fully loaded bowl, designed for use with Tangiers exclusively. Modifications, sold by many on-line retailers, help users of phunnels that aren't using Tangiers and only use a little tobacco in the bottom of the bowl. Super Chief (Y-Head, no official name yet). Works fine with Tangiers, designed for people who want a "phunnel" type functionality, but only use a little high-water content tobacco (Brands other than Tangiers). jamesh2
ok, so if a standard bowl is good for tangiers why should i invest in the phunnel?confusion on smoking tangiers is the only thing that has stopped me from getting some f-line tangiersp.s. sorry, im sure this question is redundent and asked quite often Edited June 24, 2007 by jamesh2
Calcartman
A standard bowl will smoke tangiers just fine. But if you're gonna buy a bigger bowl, or a replacement bowl, tangiers bowls hold a lot of shisha, and the funnel bowl keeps the juice in the bowl instead of flowing down the stem (so the tobacco essentially simmers in its juices)
poopooshaboo
I cant wait to see the new bowl..
mrmonk7663
Not sure if this is the right place or not but I wanted to say that I purchased a Tangier's funnel bowl with the Scalli mod. I have used it 4x so far. I got the medium bowl. I have been using it with Al Fakher Grape. Long story short, this bowl freaking rocks. Not only do I get nice thick clouds, but for the first time since i've started smoking hookah (3yrs) I taste flavor in every single draw, down to the very last one. This is my new bowl of choice by far. Also, the mod makes the center sit higher than the rim. What I have found that this does for me is allows me to put the coal on the rim and on the mod, which keeps the coal from having direct contact with the foil, which in turn has provided me with no stuck or burning tobacco. Anyway, that's my 2 cents.Michael
insidius
No offense, but I thought this post was intended to clear confusion about phunnel bowls/mods?The original post doesn't really answer or address anything, really. If anything, it only invites more questions than it answers."Standard Bowls (inc. Fine for a fully loaded bowl, designed for use with Tangiers exclusively. "Super Chief (Y-Head, no official name yet). Works fine with Tangiers, designed for people who want a "phunnel" type functionality, but only use a little high-water content tobacco (Brands other than Tangiers)."So is this the bowl to get if you don't smoke Tangiers? Standard bowls are pretty self explanitory i thought.his explaining a phunnel bowl in the second bowl type eliminates the confusion of the first post (even though there was none).Second one "fine for a fully loaded bowl. using tangiers you fill the bowl. mod is for people not smoking tangiers. The other one is the only one people should be asking about. i'm curious to see it! you can smoke any brand in the phunnel, you do not NEED this bowl, although it sounds neat and i will probably have one.Sontherts post was probably because there are a large ammount of posts concerning standard bowls and whether tangiers can be smoked in themTo sum it all up, any tobacco can be smoked in any bowl. Tangiers phunnel bowl was designed for tangiers, therefore it smokes best in the phunnel. however, you can smoke tangiers in a standard (the bowl that came with your hookah) bowl but performance is altered. This new bowl is designed for other tobacco brands around the idea of the phunnel, keeping the juices with the tobacco to produce a better smoke. symptom CY
Yeah I thought the original post was pretty self-explanatory -- Tangiers standard bowls (non-phunnel) are good all around, phunnel bowls are best for Tangiers, and the new head is an adaptation of the phunnel for use with non-Tangiers tobacco. Can't wait to see the thing...
Sonthert
OK, clarification is necessary, let me try it this way:There are three schools of thought...1. People who smoke Tangiers (and of course fill the bowl up )2. People who smoke Al Amiwahkher (other brands of tobacco with high water contents) and more or less fill their bowls up.3. People who smoke Al Amiwahkher and only use a little tobacco at the bottom. The standard bowl works fine for all the above, more or less.If you are in category 1 or 2, a phunnel is great. Makes your tobacco last longer. If you are in category 3, the Super Chief (Tangiers new head, whatever I'm gonna name it) or a phunnel with a Scalli or Smiley Mod. will be better than a standard bowl. Some people have been posting about smoking Tangiers with a phunnel and a mod, which is pointless, in my opinion. Mods were made for people in category three to adapt the phunnel for their uses...people smoking Tangiers will find, if smoking it in the standard way, a phunnel is perfect. Does that clarify it? indy
Sonthert I have a question that I haven't seen answered yet with any definity:Do the phunnel mods work on all three sizes or will they ONLY work for the medium bowls? I'd like to pick one up but I want to be able to use the mod since I use multiple brands and I don't smoke 50g per session so I don't think I need the medium bowl. Can you help me out with this one? Can I get a small phunnel and a mod and have them work together?

mrmonk7663
So if i'm reading this right, the new boal is basically a bowl that would work just like the current funnel and mod combo works correct? So you could have funnel/mod combo for whatever you wanted, or you could have a dedicated funnel for Tangiers and the new bowl for all others...in either scenario giving you the same great smoke? Unrelated, but how are yall cleaning your mods? Mine is gunked up to hell and back only after a couple sessions, and its like its stained almost. Maybe it is. I scrub it with a spunge and green pad and its still red. Thanks!!!
Hearsay
If you finish all the tobacco in the bowl scrubbing the mod should be fairly easy. Also, cleaning the mod off as soon as it is cool will make cleaning a lot easier. Try a brillo pad if yours is already gunked up and a sponge won't clean it. Sonthert
I had no extras from the first batches that came out (in fact I came up short ). Hopefully, extras will be available for me to send out soon. No, the Y-Head looks nothing like a phunnel, nor a phunnel with a mod. Its a different design entirely. Super Chief=Y-Head. Its a new bowl for people that like to smoke a little (10g or so) of Non-Tangiers tobacco. It also smokes fine if you want to load it up normally with Tangiers (full-ish). A phunnel head would still be preferable, I would think, but my testing with Tangiers in it has been limited. Once some people get these, we can get down to naming them. Currently, they are being sold in all three sizes, but once you see one, you'll realize that different sizes have little impact on them, so I'll probably standardize them to one size (medium-ish).
