wyteboy
I am starting a new topic on this because it deserves it, I want everyone to read this re-review. I posted a few days ago, please ignore my review on GS AF esk apple and this post proves that one must smoke a flavor a couple times, a few different ways, to truly gauge there like or dislike... This smoke was INCREDIBLE. I have found my new smaller holes to be UNREAL! SOOO good. It lets in SUCH little ash and SUCH little charcoal taste that I used 2 whole 3 kings with a 3/4 bowl of GS AF esk apple and had amazing, heavenly thick white clouds of smoke for a solid 40 minutes and ANOTHER 40 minutes of good white smoke, just a little whispier, this is with 2 ppl smoking. Apple generally isn't my flavor, but this was a great! Not sweet like a red ripe apple, it is a green apple, lighter flavor. It almost tastes exactly like a Green Jolly Rancher, except not as sugary. EXTREMELY smooth, outstanding smoke. I think another reason I like it so much is that my favorite smokes are watermelon and strawberry so far, also cherry and while these are different flavors, they are sort of similar....The apple (much like the grape) offers a VERY different taste on my tastebuds and the difference is very nice! I give this smoke a HUGE HUGE HUGE 10 and urge anyone looking for a non-licorice, green-apple flavor to smoke this! Mushrat and GS AF esk apple, I apolgize for ever doubting you!! This is a KEEPER along with the AF Straw and I also urge EVERYONE to try the smaller holes. What I did was make 5 lines of very small holes sort of like this (starting from left of the bowl): . . .. .. .. .. . . . and then one more down the middle, one more to the right of the middle and then another short row on the right edge. I hope that clarifies what I used. The coal like I said, was 2 3kings, one on each side of the bowl because with 1.5 it wasn't enough heat. ALso it was a little harder to "draw" and took a bit longer to really get going, but man was it worth it!! If I was using Nour I could imagine myself using the usual big hole pattern but we'll see. I am now gonna take a break from the hookah for about a week but I am now DEFINITELY resmoking the ROmman Peach one more time with this smaller hole patter and I CAN'T wait to smoke the AF straw with this pattern!!! How the heck do I decide what to keep between Fumari Watermelon and White Peach and the GS AF esk apple, AF straw, grape and cherry. You guys who keep a TON of ma'assel on hand, how do you possibly smoke it all while it's still fresh? When I order from hookah shisha in a week or two for the Nour, I may also order one more small box of 3kings since they work fantastic with this pattern! SMOKE~N~BUBBLZ
what i have found is with teh wetter more fine chopped tobacco you need smaller holes as you have discovered, with the more corse tobacco more larger holes (tooth pick large) are better but thats just me
wyteboy
just messin around mushrat interestiing observation smoken.... I was wonderinf if the smaller hole pattern would work as well with nour as it does with 3kings since the nour would produce a ton more ash...who knows? lokixragnarok
I have also tried to make my holes super fine b/c I saw a video by some guys who made the holes really small... I actually tried sprinkling the massell on about 1/2 to 3/4 full. I was using 3 kings coal and ash got in.... maybe I needed holes a little smaller. but besides the ash problem, I got good smoke and good flavor. I was smoking AF strawberry btw... before that video I was doing two things wrong....; stuffing my bowl too much, and making too many holes. now my hookah experience had gone up and I love it... I just got my order of a fumari sampler; kiwi, watermelon; sour apple; and canteloupe hope they're good... I didn't like the licorice smell of the sour apple tho... cause I hate black licorice... wyteboy
curious what you think of teh fumari, especially the sour apple! ash getting in isn't too big of a deal, if you use natural coals like nour and bigger "toothpick" size holes, some ash will get in but it doesn't really affect the taste... I make like I would say35-50 tiny holes in the pattern that I posted above and it so far has worked very well for me. what you think of the af strawberry? that is my #1-3 smoke...I can't wait to resmoke the Fumari watermelon and white peach, as well as AF flavors again with this new hole pattern and see if my smokes are just as amazing... afrdzak
I use push pins to create my holes. Works pretty well for me.
mushrat
My metal screen works just fine with my AF. Good thick smoke and LONG lasting sessions. I do however use irregualr chunks of natural charcoal and like to add new caols every so often, rotateing the smaller older coals to the edges... Seems tending the coals has become part of my smoking "ritual".
