Mapexdrumboi
All smoking in public places is being band, i agree that cigarettes are bad and they should be band, but hookah is a very sociable and relaxing pastime which people enjoy. Also the cafes are only for smoking hookah so people do not have to visit them if they do not wish. i find this incredibly unfair on the cafe owners, for the previous reason and its their job so they will have to find another job. A petition was signed, but it did not cause anything to happen, but hopefully after 3 years the cafes will be able to open. Some of the cafes may revolt like the one JD spoke of. Nothing like a bit of anarchy lol!!

oggie505#2
I think what will happen is shisha bars are going to be looking for places that have an open padio. The law allows establishment smoking aslong as it is outside i believe.

Sonthert
In California, if you are the retailer, distributer or manufacturer of tobacco products, you can allow smoking indoors. A straight ban is faggotry. As far as the person who said something to the effect:"At least they haven't banned smoking in our homes." They are setting the stage. If we allow them to ban smoking (Which has little credible statistical evidence to support the law that second hand smoke is dangerous) in public places, then they will move to banning it in our homes. These are the same insane people, at least in spirit, that started prohibition in this country...they had logical and "scientific" evidence to support their point that drinking should be banned. Its a bad law, it infringes on our rights, it should be protested. Organize yourselves. Protest, write letters, bullhorn parliament, just don't let them move into your home with a "Law for your safety." Franklin (I could have sworn it was credited one time to Jefferson?) said Those that would trade liberty for security (Safety) will have neither. When they do that, they can move into your house and restrict what you say or watch or believe.
Gaara
Sucks for you guys. Maybe it'll turn out like ours? They placed a smoking ban here in DC/MD and the Shisha bars appealed successfully so the law gives exception to Hookah smoking.
ZAP
Hmm.. there's 2 cafes here in Blackburn and both say they're staying open. The first one says they are going to be doing it on a membership basis and the other says that they are going to fully remove the roof and create a huge balcony with a glass top, making it ventilated enough to allow. But only time will tell if they will succeed... Hearsay
QUOTE (Mapexdrumboi @ Jun 26 2007, 12:59 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Cigarettes are bad and they should be banned.I disagree entirely. That is extremely hypocritical. Why should one type of smoking be allowed and another banned because the former can be construed as more social? They are both forms of smoking and similar arguments are made against them. That said, I think smoking bans are ludicrous. If you own a place of business, be it a bar, restaurant, or lounge, it's your right to decide whether or not smoking is allowed within its walls. Whether or not second hand smoke is scientifically proven to be dangerous is irrelevant. The government should not have the right to ban activities like smoking. People who are disturbed by smoke can choose not to frequent a smoking establishment in favor of others that forbid smoking.
jaker29902
Quick idea, if its banned from public places, cafes can charge $1 or is it pounds for you guys? anyways cafes and such can charge $1 for membership and in effect make it a "private" club, actually dont know if that will work in UK, in US? definately! oh well, hopefully you guys can, and maybe this will help UK hookah bars and such remain open and whatnot okay bye bye now I feel like Im just rambling and saying nothing but I dont want to really end this for some reason so yeahh....okay THE ENDEDIT: Cant spell UK for some reason Edited June 27, 2007 by jaker29902

However if you go into a hookah bar, you should not expect to see people smoking shisha?Maybe I am just being illogical. Or maybe the UK is one big giant dildo, the law is the lube and us (the residents) are the tight hole that seems to be getting strtched day by day. Maybe. But what do I know. I am still young.
