size of the base?

Recommended Posts

does the size of the base of the hookah affect the smoke?  Just wondering since my small sultan has a pretty small base, if the base was larger, would I get much bigger, more relaxing hits? cooler/smoother hits? or does it not really matter?

I used to not think that bigger is better, but now think it does. My stargate hookah, although it does look nice does not have a large water chamber. It hits smoothly, but I couldn't figure out why my buddies simple, 34" hookah with a massive chamber could hit sooo much better than mine.
The reason I believed that size didn't matter was because smoke is constantly being pulled through it, but I went out and bought a similar simple, single hose hookah with a MASSIVE glass chamber which is over 1' tall and pretty wide, it hits like a beast. My Stargate doesn't compare with the amount of actual smoke.
So now I use my huge single hose hookah as a daily smoker, as it is much easier to clean compared to the stargate which takes forever to disassemble and clean, and it also gives me much more smoke while still staying very smooth, and my Stargate as a weekend smoker because it's more asthetically pleasing.
So in conclusion, I would have to say in my experience that yes, a larger chamber produces more smoke. I couldn't tell you why this is, but it works for me. Hopefully others with more knowledge on this forum could give you a better reason.

well...a bigger chamber means perhaps more space between the top of the water and the bottom of the shaft. This is the space that the smoke expands and fills before being sucked up into the base through the hose section holes in the bottom of the base. More smoke in the base, more smoke to be sucked up.
The larger air space also means it will hit easier due to the pressure differences and the greater area of water surface to pull the smoke through. More open air space, lower the air pressure, the easier it is to pull the smoke through the water.
Try filling your vase to different levels and seeing which is easiest to pull through, you'll get what i mean. Its why we only fill the vases an inch or so past the end of the stem pipe end.
Another rambleing Mushrat technical answer but i think somewhere in there is an actual fact or two.

Big difference between my Syrian job (Slightly smaller chamber) and my Egyptian machines. The Syrian seems to hit a little on the hot side. Even the small Egyptian one I owned temporarily as an emergency party hookah hit wonderfully, because of the chamber size. I wish I held on to it now.

the water absorbs alot of the sh*t. the more water with a bigger base, means more stuff is absorbed.
So I imagine with a bigger base, you'll get more smokes, and perhaps more than one head of tobacco.
My acrylic Mya is fine though, and at that size I have no problems. I've tried miniature shishas before with a small base, it is very harsh to smoke. Bigger is better, but once you reach the average size, then its fine.

my small sultan has a really small base...but I think it smokes great.
Math, you have this and have smoked much larger hookahs too? Does it smoke comparably?  Anyone know if the Taqseem Jr. hookahs have a relatively large base?

I read that small hookah bases are very popular amongst experienced
hookah smokers.  Why?  I don't know.  But in my own
experience,  having smoked from both large and small bases,
I'd have to say that there's no MAJOR difference that can be
detected.  As long as you don't overfill the base with
liquid,  then I'd say you're alright.  Supposedly Genie bases
are supposed to be better than many regular round bases.  Once
again,  I don't know why,  it's just what I've read.

I love my little Sultan Hookah,  it gets the job done just
fine,  except for ONE thing.  The ribbons around the rubber
vase grommet are wearing-out and I can see smoke spewing-out where the
stem meets the base.  I'm thinking about getting an acrylic hookah
because of the screw-in stem,  the hookah remains airtight.
I may buy a MYA SARAY Acrylic for that reason.

Oh,  and I tried replying to your PM,  but the server must
have been overloaded at the time,  because the message wouldn't go
thru.  So to answer your question,  no I'm not a Packer
fan.  Infact,  I'm not a sports fan at all,  it puts me
to sleep.  If I had a choice of watching a good movie or watching
the SuperBowl,  I'd opt for the movie..........and my hookah of
course

I could see that problem arising later on with my small sultan...the very top of the rubber grommber around the base of the stem is sort of getting a bit loose kind of, hard to describe, but it is not a problem right now.  based on budget, to replace this one, I would probably just buy a Taqseem jr...anyone else here have one of those? how are they?
math, how much are the hookahs with the screw in stem that you are talking about buying?

thanks for the input!

They range in price is from $60 to $70.  But,  right
there,  we're talking about a VERY small base.  I really
don't think it makes any difference,  unless you like to add LOTS
of ice.

Go to:  www.MYASARAY.com

1.  Click on Skip Intro
2.  Click on Shopping at top of page
3.  Click on the + sign under Narghileh (Hookah) on right side of page
4.  Click on Acrylic

They're not the most exotic-looking hookahs I've ever seen,  but
they're reletively inexpensive,  airtight,  and VERY
well-made.

You can find cheaper Acrylic Hookahs on other sites,  that look
exactly the same as MYA SARAY'S Acrylics,  but they're made in
China and they're VERY cheap.  MYA SARAY designs and makes their
own line of acrylic hookahs.

You're not a dumbass,  wyteboy,  I could have suggested the
same thing,  only I don't know where to get a replacement grommet
for the Sultan or what size to get.  Obviously,  it wouldn't
be a large,  nor probably even a medium.  But what if you buy
a new grommet and it doesn't fit?

If anyone knows where I can get a new grommet for my Junior Sultan,  that would be MUCH appreciated

lol thanks Math
I bet I can get good smoke out of this for at least another 6 months, especailly because the woman (as great she might be) probably won't want me smoking it that much...
with my great new hole design, I am gonna have her smoke either AF straw, gs ag esk apple, or either Fumari flavor if I can my hands on some before she comes to visit next...then maybe I can turn her on!  (to the hookah, you dirty-minded people!) :)
