SmokeMojo
QUOTE (jaker29902 @ Jun 28 2007, 11:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Regular kitchen grade aluminum foil, can I use it as a hookah-foil or no?Sure can, that's what a lot of people use. Reynold's wrap has a pretty good thickness, some of the cheaper brands are real thin..
mrmonk7663
Also, there are different Reynolds as well. You have your regular reynolds, which works just fine, and then you have your HEAVY DUTY Reynolds, which is far superior to the normal stuff. You can reuse your foil quite a few sessions with the heavy duty, and you also can get a tight seal without ripping it so easily.Michael
KillZedKill
for some reason, my friends and I have a habbit of using the shiny side of the foil down. I'm not sure if its a myth oir not, but i guess its healthier that way. Also, when we used to waist money on actual hookah foil, we were instructed to put the shiny side down. SammyDDS
Dont be cheap and reuse foil...Especially if you are using different flavors in your bowl...Just use any kind of foil and you will be ok to smoke.
ahwahoo2006
I second the "heavy-duty" foil - it works much better.
indy
Just a quick note about the shiny side down technique. The differences in reflection between the two sides is a result of the manufacturing process used to make the foil. Typically the foil is too weak to go through the rollers, etc. on its own and so it is doubled up with another layer of foil and the two layers pass through the process together, one on top of the other. When they are separated at the end, a matte finish can be seen on the side that was touching the other layer. There is no difference in chemical makeup between the two sides, its simply a texture difference. That being said, shiny side down probaly has less tendancy to stick to the tabacco
hookahlife
Aluminum foil is fine for smoking, just make sure it is NOT the non-stick type. The non-stick type has all kinds of nasty chemicals in it.Also, I would not recommend reusing foil. However, burning the foil or aluminum screen prior to smoking from it is a good idea as it will burn away a lot of the chemicals that you smoke out when burning aluminum. Actually, when smoking from fresh aluminum foil or screens you may notice you get a headache occasionally, thats actually slight aluminum oxide poisening, nothing really dangerous but burning the foil prior to using it will get rid of that.Hope this helps.
