Taste Aversion

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this will make any sense, but I thought I'd see what you guys thought.

On a wednesday night I smoked Al-Waha "Winter Flower." I wasn't a huge fan, but that is beside the point. About half way through my smoke I started throwing up. It ended up being due to some 24 hour bug I picked up and had nothing to do with the smoke. If you know anything about psychology it would make perfect sense that I might develop some kind of aversion towards said shisha. That wouldn't have bummed me out too much because, as I said, I didn't care for the flavor. But it seems now that ANY non-fruit flavor makes me feel sick, not just "Winter Flower." Even flavors that I really liked before, such as "After Nine" and "Cappuccino." I was wondering if any of you had some advice. It bothers the crap out of me, and I'm afraid that alot of my shisha will go to waste if I can't get over this. Thanks!

How positive are you that it was a 24/hr bug and not the smoke? Were you puking before the session? Or did it start like you said in the middle of your session?

Not sure. If it were me, I'd probably just stay away from my non-fruity flavors for a few months, and then after some time give them a go again. Hookah tobacco has a nice long shelf life if properly stored, so I wouldn't worry about it going bad while you take a break from the non-fruits.

You hear all the time where people get sick from a night of drinking tequilla, rum, etc etc and say they'll never be able to drink, let alone look at or smell the stuff again, but after time things change and they're right back on the wagon happy.gif

So yeah, I say give it some time and you should be ready to rock out with your hookah house out soon enough.

Stay away from minty flavors for a while, and make sure that you eat before you smoke, and eat salty foods while smoking hookah...it helps. Yes...It is very possible to have a psychological aversion from anything with mint in it. If you want to give away your after nine and/or your cappucinno I would gladly take them off your hands smile.gif

Taste aversion is real. Being a giant american fattie, I've had it for a couple of things.

One time on a roadtrip to TN, I puked up hotdogs and couldn't eat them. For about 5 years. tongue.gif

I've heard that hypnosis helps with getting over such minor psychological conditions, but can't guarantee it.

I would say try drinking floral based teas... it will calm you, and soothe your stomach to any potential taste aversion you might have. Then work your way up to smoking.

We still need to meet up and smoke out!

Could be nicotine and the time of the year, Al Waha does have a nicotine kick and some brand's non-fruity flavors tend towards soapy...I have always found Jasmine nauseating, more or less.

So when i bought my first hookah, i bought a pumpkin style hookah and i bought some al amir strawberry kiwi and i asked the guy if he had anything that would be stronger and give me a better buzz, he said well try the winter flower, so that night we smoke the entire box of (50g) of strawberry kiwi and 4 hours later we decide to try the winter flower, all i can say is YUCK that thing tasted like i was eating pine sol and people were joking about washing their mouths out with soup because thats what it tasted like, i only took 3 or 4 hits though so i did not throw up, but gosh that was a bad flavor, turned me off of AW for a long time lol Edited by chrisrbts
