Coal Lighting

Recommended Posts

So currently I use a blowtorch with an electric click starter. It works fine, just start it up, set it down and then hold the coal next to the flame and turn the tongs. But in my lazy slothness, I am always up for finding the "easier" way. I am curious what methods yall use to get the coals, especially naturals that could potentially take 2-3 minutes to get lit, go about it. If you use a gas stove, wonderful, you need not reply, and if you use a butane lighter/torch lighter, great, you need not reply. I was thinking a little camping stove with a steel/metal grate at the top to place the coals on to let them heat up, or perhaps even a Bunsen burner. Anyone got any lazy ways? Edited by Shifty

Ok I use a Bernz but hear me out! My Bernz came with a heat spreader. I just light the torch up with the heat spreader on and then gently place the coal on it. It's a nice convenient thing I discovered when i tried out the heat spreader. It's pretty awesome

I just toss them on my stove (electric in case it matters), but I do have one of those mini camping stoves. The problem with those, besides the toxic fumes filling your house, would be that the legs that spread (hold your jokes) spread too wide since they're meant for pots and pans and whatnot for camping. I'm sure you could craft up something to keep the legs from spreading too far or to narrow the area between them, but I don't care enough since I can just toss them on my regular stove.

With quicklites I just use a little butane lighter.

I throw the natural coals out on the natural gas firepit I have in the back...No need for turning with tongs, I just wait like 2 minutes and presto.

I place a quick-lite coal on the hookah, and smoke for a couple of minutes. Then I place a japanese coal next to the quick-lite. In a couple of minutes, the japanese coal is glowing. When the original quick-lite is used up, I place another jap. coal on. Easy.
