deltr
I read in a thread earlier about how a guy got a headache from smoke so thick cause he had the coals over the only holes. I just tried it out and WOW this is the thickest smoke i've ever seen. I have 3 japanese easy lites over 3 groups of holes and it's amazing. Head Mahone
It sounds like you would be tasting too much of the coals. How much coal flavor did you notice?Head
billy
So you're saying you poked 3 holes and put 3 coals over each hole???
Frands
Well... you sure that you aren't just smoking the coal? 'Cause it seems very unlikely to me that it would taste anywhere near good... but hey, i think i'll give it a go tomorrow just for fun
ezie
Is it harder to pull with only three holes? How big is the hole? I usually use a toothpick and poke like 20 holes and the pull is eazy but sometime i can feel there something stuck when i pull hard. Peace
ahwahoo2006
Could someone maybe draw a diagram and post it for the rest of us? Thanks!
abeezstg
I did 3 groups of holes like 3 in each area. then i put the coal on those with one hole in the middle of the bowl. Worked well. Not any coal taste that i could tell. One draw back though, when you want to move the coals, you don thave any other holes punched in, so i had to make a few new ones. No biggie, just a little annoying.

tj154906
I just did this. I used a medium funnel bowl (no mod), Starbuzz "blueberry", and 3 japanese easy lites.I poked the holes like this (sorry for the crappy MS paint job.)I then just covered the 4X4 hole squares with the coals, and every 20 minutes or so I undid the foil a bit and rotated it so that the holes would be over a different bit of shisha. It smoked REALLY good for almost two hours. Make sure you pack the bowl so there is a good amount of room between the shisha and the foil or it will be imossible to rotate. Good luck! MechAnt
Be careful with this type of setup though. The buzz you feel may not be only nicotine but possibly carbon monoxide getting into your system.

Sonthert
I would guess it is Carbon Monoxide. Inhaling directly under the coal is going to suck all the carbon monoxide in. Other holes allow air in to mix with.
deltr
Here's a photo I had taken while creating this thread:In it you can see the pattern of coals as well as the holes I had in the foil. I hope this helps and I HOPE I wasn't just huffing carbmon monoxide.
MechAnt
There really isn't much opportunity for air to mix in well so i think carbon monoxide would be quite prevalent.

I think that this setup makes for less air in the base mixing with the shisha smoke, but would for no reason mean more carbon monoxide.
SmokeMojo
I gotta find the cable for my camera.. I did this with Tangiers and Starbuzz.. Both had ridiculous whiteout smoke.. The smoke was so damn thick that a hookah fog blanketed my entire living room and the TV got blurry.. I have a big living room, I just closed the bay doors so it was enclosed and my dad walked in and said.. "If I didn't know any better I woulda thought something was on fire in here.." Then he came over, took a hit and said.. "You'll have to tell me how you did this.." (I bought he and my mother a hookah and they always ask me how to set it up when I'm not home during the school semesters.)Edit: When I posted that it made me want to smoke more.. So I'm lighting up some Tangiers Guava right now..
