mrmonk7663
So I went to a Hookah Bar in Houston. I was bored so I thought I'd see how a local Hookah joint sets up their hookahs and just to get an idea for the future if I ever wanted to possibly open my own. First thing I noticed was that all the hookahs were Mya Acrylics. That was a good thing in my book. Then they brought me mine. I immediately noticed the holes were not like I would place them. Next I noticed that the bowl seemed to be overflowing with tobacco, and there were two fresh coals on top which covered the entire bowl. Everyone's hookah in the place looked like this. I smoked on it a few times and as I suspected it tasted like crap, burnt crap. I removed the coals, removed some tobacco, and adjusted the coals and I started to get some flavor, but there was so much crap permanently bonded to the foil at this time I was screwed. What is crazy about this though is that every hookah in the place was set up like this, and people LOVED it. There were probally 50 hookahs set up throughout the rest, at $10 a piece. If people love hookah that tastes like crap, and they flock to a place to pay for this, just imagine what a good hookah lounge could do. I see Mya Hookahs, Funnel Bowls or the new Bowl that is coming out on every hookah, etc etc. Anyway, I won't be going back to this particular place for the hookah.Later, mike
Big Boss
Sad to say, but most people that go to hookah bars don't know how a good hookah session should taste. Too bad you had a bad experience.
nicayotte
damn right i remember when i went to the hookah bar for the first time, i loved it, then i decided after that to buy my own and when i made my first own bowl and such and smoked it........ way better now i rarely go to the hookah bars cause they are a harsh among expensive for my tastes due to the fact they use off brand chep tabacc
mrmonk7663
I had some Hummus too, and it was way below par also. It just amazes me that people find the hookah and food etc etc so good. If they were introduced to good hookah and good food, I guarantee that they would never go back, and thus opening a lounge might just be lucrative. *HOT&SMOKING*
QUOTE (nicayotte @ Jul 5 2007, 07:57 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>damn right i remember when i went to the hookah bar for the first time, i loved it, then i decided after that to buy my own and when i made my first own bowl and such and smoked it........ way better now i rarely go to the hookah bars cause they are a harsh among expensive for my tastes due to the fact they use off brand chep tabaccsee its all in the money-making.....the customers that they focus on are noobies, people that have never touched a hookah pipe before.....as these people do not know how it is supposed to taste. So the hookah bar can give them any cr*p and they will still come back for more.-H&S
ahwahoo2006
This is why I go to the place near me where the menu is half in arabic and I'm usually the only white guy in the place (which definitely gets me a few looks). The food is delicious (mmmmm stuffed grape leaves) and I've actually managed to impress some of the regulars there because I use proper smoking etiquette (only use your right hand, never smoke from the front of your mouth). zeppyrkr
i had a employee at the local hookah bar tell me how they set theres up he didnt know what he was talking about, i told him i was buying one and asked him suggestion on how to set it up , it was such a generic answer like you put this on this and then put a coal on the top, lol, he seriously said its fine to use normal coals for the grill, im like i know for a fact that your not suppose to , then i told him the smoke was harsh and he came over slobbered all over our hose and said it tasted fine to him, ugh never again ... buy your own even if you have no idea what your doing it will be better lol
iluvahipokeinhi
I havent had a bad hookah bar experience yet, granted i only went to 2 hookah bars before i bought my own. I recently went to a hookah bar in Cincy(in clifton called the gypsy) and it was fantastic. the people there really knew what they were doing and were the friendliest bunch of people i've met at a hookah place. anyway, i have mentioned this before, but i really feel like it is much cheaper in the long run to buy your own stuff. i usually only go to a hookah place for the ambiance and to get out of the house. (sometimes we all need that) happy smoking.
mrmonk7663
Hell, in most instances it can be cheaper in the short run to buy your own stuff too!!! No lie you can get into hookah smoking with a real hookah, accessories, and tobacco for $20. May not be the best, but it damn sure won't be the worst!!!
