Ocrap
Does anyone notice a tickle in there throat off of certain Al Fahker flavors, especially in the beginning process of the bowl? I have noticed it with Melon and Apple. Am I tripping? Or is there something in the tobacco with these certain flavors?
frankenstein_666
YUP....I get the same thing with the AF 2xapple...the only other shisha that did this as well was Tangiers. I typically like layalina and Starbuzz now.
Ocrap
I would have to say that the smoothest flavors I've had from Al Fahker are Apricot and Strawberry. I think Grape too, but I don't remember. I'm going to order more soon.
deltr
I pretty much only smoke Al Fakhar Mint but I've had a lot of other flavors and it never tickled my throat UNLESS the bowl was harsh from too many coals.
ahwahoo2006
I've never noticed it with my Al-Fahker strawberry

frankenstein_666
My hoses are brand new and I actually use a few different ones that are a little older than the next but not more than a few weeks old for all...I am new at this BUT I have tested about 7-10 flavors now with all great success stories although AF 2xapple and Tangiers are the only ones (for me) that have given me this throat tickle. Now, it does go away about half way through the session?
symptom CY
I get that from AF Banana. A sort of choking feeling or a chemical burning in the back of the throat? I get it from a lot of Layalina flavors, too. Sometimes letting the tobacco air out can alleviate that problem, but not always.
Ocrap
It's not the hoses. I'm having a wonderful session with AF Apricot right now. It's so good and so smooth. It's only with melon and apple when I get the irritation. It's only in the beginning of the Melon and Apple sessions when the irritation is there. It goes away after 15 to 20 minutes. I love Al Fahker.
Ocrap
Oh yeah. Banana too. The flavor is so gross though. I think I'm just gonna throw it away. Maybe I should try letting it sit out for a while. I never thought of that. I'll let you know if that works. Thanks for the tip
symptom CY
Yeah AF Banana is pretty disgusting. Smells like new shoes. I'm gonna try that Sahara Banana Milk flavor I think...
Ocrap
If I remember correctly, I really good banana is Al Amir. I use to always mix it with Al Amir Guava before I got into Al Fahker. Now Al Fahker is coming out with Guava in a couple of weeks. I can't wait to try it. Edited July 6, 2007 by Ocrap
MechAnt
The tickling in the throat is the nicotine. Don't believe me? Ask most experienced users including Sonthert. Anyone of 'em will tell you it is because it is! Don't worry, you're just getting your buzz

Why would i get the tickle from AF Melon and Apple but not AF Apricot and Strawberry? Romman has more nicotine than Al Fahker and it doesn't irritate my throat. What's the explanation for this? MechAnt
Hmmmm. Good question
symptom CY
I'm pretty sure it's not the nicotine, it's something else... it's a different kind of discomfort in the throat. A "chemical choke" is the best way I can describe it -- it seems to come from the flavoring itself.
Bryantos
I've noticed the same thing from some AF, and it wasn't a heat issue. I usually smoke at a hookah bar, but wont much anymore as my Mya QT is coming tomorrow , and they use AF.Anywho, I wasn't the only one at the table having the problem. Me and a friend couldn't inhale very much because we had an irratation in the throat. This was only after the first few pulls. After my first turn in rotation, I couldn't inhale almost any smoke or it irratated the mess out of my throat, and the same for my friend. The reason I said it couldn't be a heat problem is because the bar always uses the same two coals and the same setup with all of the same hookahs. The bar uses all Mya QTs, and the only difference between hookahs is flavor and liquid in the base.
racemyghost
I get that feeling when i smoke Al Fahker Pineapple for like 20+mins.
Calcartman
I tend to get that from Cola flavors. If its a washed tobacco, the tickle can be from the flavoring.
anathema
I've experienced this "irritation" while smoking Golden Grape and Mint(rarer occasions than grape). I just take weaker drags. Situations were 3K coals, hot day, ice water in the base. It's usually either:A)I'm weaksauceB)The coals are too hotC)The moassel didn't acclimate (it's hard to plan sessions 3-4 hours ahead of time).D)I'm on my third bowl. Refer to possibility A).My cigarette smoker never complained about the irritation though.
ezie
Most of the time i some AF mint but i have no problem with the irritation. I get the troat irritation from smoking Grape once and i almost throw away the shisha but it's probably my setup or my shisha because it's dry and most of AF is wet maybe that is the problem bad shisha Peace
Andi87
Yes i have noticed that too, mostly with AF Cola.
Head Mahone
I've never had any tickle in my throat, cough or headache from smoking (common complaints from some of you guys). I think you need to start changing your coal setup. Head
Johnny_D
It's funny.I get this problem with Grape flavours. Espcially AF grape.I have also had it, albeit milder, with Layalina Grape. No other flavours though. JD
symptom CY
I get this more with Layalina than I do with AF -- Layalina Passion Fruit is particularly prone to this problem. Head: I think most of us know enough about heat management to know that this is kind of a seperate issue -- you don't even need to be good at heat management to get Layalina and AF smoking well. It has more to do with the state of the tobacco, I think.I think the only way around it is to let the tobacco air out. Also, one time I tried gently pressing the tobacco between two paper towels between smoking, and much to my surprise it was a fantastic smoke -- no reduction in smoke volume and the flavor actually seemed to be stronger somehow.
