Request Advice

As the title says, I want to upgrade my bowl and my hookah experience. I'm just a little hesitant to make a purchase either way because I'm not sure which would be better suited for me and my smoke.

I primarily (read: only) smoke Al Fakher and Star Buzz. Which bowl would be better? Should I go with the tried and true phunnel with scalli mod? Or should I buy the new Super Chief (which, to my understanding, does the same thing as the scalli mod/phunnel), which is 'untested' and has no reviews yet?

I'm really up in the air on this one and due to extentuating circumstances, I can't really wait to see reviews for the super chief before buying. I pretty much have to decide tonight.

I'm in the same situation. I have a small phunnel with the mod. It works great but I think its a little small. I smoke Al Fahker and Al Amir. I'm waiting to decide to get the medium phunnel or the medium super chief. There probably is no wrong decision. I may just have to get both I hope there will be a color selection for the super chief though

This has been discussed a bunch... The super chief is (I believe) for shorter smokes, and meant to use much less shisha than a phunnel. It is also intended for non-Tangiers flavors. The Phunnel is great for those multi-hour smoke sessions where you want flavor the entire time. They will, however, use much more shisha. The bowl is intended solely for Tangiers tobacco, and the Scalli's mod adapted it to smoke well with other brands.

I smoke Starbuzz and Fumari, and I love my small phunnel. I actually use the metal cup from a tea candle as a home made mod. It doesn't take all that much shisha to fill it, but it will smoke for over 1 1/2 hours easy.

Don't know much about the new Super Chief, but the small phunnel is the stuff.

Yeah i got one of those. I'm using it right now with my small phunell. Thanks for the tip. The metal from the tea candle is very flexible. It won't melt from the coals will it?

here is what i asked:

since we got you here in this thread, i have a question regarding your super chief bowl.
the phunnel bowl seems to work great for tangiers tobacco as well as non-tangiers tobacco when used with the mod.
now, how is the super chief any different than a standard egyptian bowl in terms of functionality for non-tangiers tobacco?
and, how are the results different with non-tangiers tobacco between the phunnel and super chief?

I smoke Tangiers a majority of the time OR I smoke Tangiers and other brands, but I always fill the bowl up when smoking other brands..........Phunnel Head

The majority of the time, I smoke brands other than Tangiers and use just a little tobacco when I make a head. I may or may not smoke Tangiers..............Super Chief

My smoking habits vary greatly, I use a little non-Tangiers, I fill a bowl with non-Tangiers, I smoke some Tangiers or not................Standard Head

Essentally, nobody needs a phunnel head with a mod anymore...if you really need a phunnel with a mod, buy a super chief.

i was in pretty much the same situation as you and decided just a couple days ago to go with the phunnel/mod combo...but then again...i also ordered some tangiers shisha (i smoke other brands too) which is something it doesnt sound like youre doing...so i dont know....hasnt come in yet cuz there was a couple mixups...

I mostly smoke Al Fakher, Layalina and some Nakhla. I've found that my funnel bowl VASTLY improves my smoking experience with both AF and Layalina (I haven't tried it with Nakhla yet) even without the scalli mod. I've been smoking a funnel bowl of Layalina pear for the last three hours and I haven't taken a harsh hit yet. Don't worry about using a funnel with non-Tangiers shisha. As long as the shisha is fairly moist, I think you'll do okay. I know I have.
