Well, I am of the opinion that Starbuzz is along the same lines of quality as Al Amir or Al Fahker, just with a larger pricetag...or a $6 bus ticket, however you want to put it. It sells a lot better...it would be a logical extension to assume that a good segment of people are buying what's the most expensive, not what the best deal is. With that, Smiley might be checking the elasticity of the market or to see if the demand is biased towards big-ticket items.

This really makes me want to make an expensive, washed tobacco, put it in expensive containers that are barely functional that just end up filling up landfills. I'm a sucker and should be cashing in.

I'm going to make a line of cooked, washed tobacco...that does it.

Still, that price! As far as Fumari and Romman go, they have some nice quality product and deserve that pricetag.

If you look at the price of HookahHookah shots, they are pretty damned expensive on a per kilo price, too.

maybe this was all a simple miscommunication and its not 15g packs for $9 lol.. maybe he meant 10 15g shots will still be about the same price as the current 150g packs.. aka, ~$.90-$1.00 per 15g shot?

honestly, if he were selling his stuff in 15g shots that were the same price if you bought enough as the 150g (or whatever size) package. basically for the normal price. i would be ALL over that.

that would let me explore a ton of flavors and i would likely end up buying more. $1 for a small bowl and $2 for a large 2 flavor bowl sounds pretty good to me..

we shall see. Edited by Evil_Spork

So, I guess you guys didn't read the posts where Mushrat AND MNH talked to the distributor and got the same info? If this is a big screwup of info, then I would imagine Smiley's distributor won't be around much longer....

there was no miscommunication.. I thought there was when I was talking to the distributor thinking he didn't really know about shisha but then i got the fax and saw all the prices on the herbal which is more expensive and the shisha and his bowls which are said to go for 45.00 retail now.. so like mushrat was saying i waiting for hopefully a phone call from the distributor with a new price list.. his explanation to me was that they made a new look for the shisha and it was going to be better packaging then before.. but still that much more money.. I dont get it

Well I might as well throw my crazy theory in with everyone else. Maybe he no longer wants to produce and sell his current line of tobacco, for god knows whatever reason, and this is sort of like a symbolic way of ending it. Like when a house or company is sold for $1.

Anyway that said before people start pouncing on smiley I should remind that he has unlike most people here he actually grew up with shishas and knows his stuff. So I think we can throw out the theory that he thinks people are going to be dumb enough to buy it. I just wish the man himself would show up to tell us his reasoning.

This is what i would like to see. I did post a comment a while back on this thread sayingi didnt think smiley seemed like a good guy. I have since realised that i was also reading posts with controversy in it where people seemed to be attacking him in one way or another. I have been wanting to try his shisha but it is kinda expensive. It going up is making me step back even farther. I would like to see some input from smiley himself so we can all stop wondering what's going on.

I doubt it's smiley per se, probably has soemthing to do with the Distributor he hired. Now this guy has to make money for himself AND smiley. It's gone from a labor of love for Smiley to dollar signs dancing in SOMEONE ELSES head for his distributor. As for Smiley, he's feeling pretty betrayed by BOTH forums and I doubt we'll see much of him again. Going with a distributor is just another step AWAY from the internet smoking community and further into his own new place in Tucson.

I questioned smileys character when he pulled shenidagans on me and i still do. But thats not the topic of this, the topic is the most extreme price change of the century :-P

I remember when i bitched when it went from 7-9 bucks... now im just in Awe. Maybe theyre going to try to make shisha as expensive as cigerattes =-O

I don't mean to say anything definitive, but I've always been leery of Smiley's motivations. If I remember correctly, he initially approached these forums solely to push his product and was banned for it -- he was only allowed back after changing (or strategizing?) the manner in which he participated here. Just when I thought he was becoming more professional -- giving up his position as a moderator at HP for the greater good of the forum -- it almost came to seem as though he expected everyone to disagree with his decision and beg the administration to let him keep his moderator status. Everyone praised him for what he did and he still wasn't satisfied, so what would seem more important to him? Contributing to the community? Or maintaining a powerful position in a consumer-based network?

That said, this ridiculous new pricing has to have something to do with the new distributor too, as mushrat said. All I know is that it would have been much better for his business had he just maintained his composure on both forums and kept going the way he was. I didn't like his product at all, but at least some people would still be buying it... Edited by symptom CY

I'm sorry, there was some amount of misunderstanding here. I was making a general joke, not directing it at Smiley's or Starbuzz or Mars or anything or anybody like that.

I have been mulling over making a line of cooked, washed tobacco...that wasn't a complete joke. Some people don't care for Tangiers, which is cool, they might like a washed line.

The price does seem high, that was true, if the new price is right.

Hookah Hookah's shots are also expensive on a per kilo basis.

Sorry this is off topic but I must say that I support the addition of the Tangiers washed line -- while I'd probably still stick to the unwashed, I think that Tangiers flavorings are too good to be restricted to a tobacco that many find incompatible with their technique or preference. Start a poll -- I guarantee it would get tons of support...

I quite agree!

Mushrat being one of them who, i believe, was doing a healthy trade in smiley's at his lounge.

This thread has now been running for around 3 days (give or take a few hours). There are threads of a similar nature & discussion in other places.

Unless Smiley, Randy, Their Wives, girlfriends and significant other's have all binned there computers, I will lay £1 to a 0.01p that Smiley et al are surely now aware of the discussions taking place?

Maybe he truly believes he can sell his tobacco at these prices. Well good luck with that!
