Evil_Spork
check my post history, sonthert (owner of tangiers) posted a very nice step by step guide.my best luck has been spread the heat and use lots of big holes. sounds weird but when i used big holes it worked and everyone could smoke it and liked it. it DID kick our ass though haha. with small holes it was failure. aldonb1
nope... tangiers is like this... more tobacco = good, and less heat = good. (note: u still need sufficent amount to cook the shisha, but be sure not to overwhelm it)So i would say check your coal amount, and put some more in there. But go ahead and try searching, there have been a bunch of threads abou how to get tangiers to smoke better.Trust all of us tangiers lovers, its worth it once u get it working =)

Sonthert
There are two general classes of tobacco, high water content and low water content. Tangiers represents the last of the ancient breed of low-water tobaccos. Water takes lots of heat to boil, but boils at a relatively low temperature. So a low water tobacco needs more heat, but cooks at a lower temperature (the temperature couldn't exceed the boiling point of the water until all the water is boiled away...at which time the high-water content tobaccos will stop smoking). Tangiers, on the other hand, needs less heat, but operates at a higher temperature. The higher temperature means that heat transfer is more important. Tobacco is the best transmitter of heat (next to the foil), better than the bowl around it and better than air. If you separate the tobacco, spread it out, use a small amount of tobacco or leave a big gap between the tobacco and the foil, the heat will be too low and the tobacco will be harsh and little smoke. So, fill the bowl up and don't separate or mash the tobacco. It wants to be at the same density as it is in the bag. Also, don't forget to mix the tobacco and juice together each time, real well. Ehagen8008
i just got my tangiers in yesterday...tried it for the first time with my new phunnel....it didnt go THAT great either...the taste was never there (i assume, and hope, it was because i acclimated it for a total of about 5 mins)...the buzz was good and much enjoyed....it lasted for about 1:15 before it was done (small phunnel)...i think i may have not packed it quite enough...didnt stir it around a whole lot...i didnt try any more after that (no time) and didnt try any other brand with the mod combo...but really...it can only go uphill from here....i guess we'll see with time how it works out... SmokeMojo
I kind of did the same thing Erica did.. I asked for all kinds of advice on how to get it to smoke right.. then I just got upset one day and just shoved a ton in the bowl out of frustration, slapped some tinfoil on, poked a bunch of furious holes, threw a coal on and took my first hit of hookah ecstacy.. for real. By far the biggest problem people have with tangiers is failing to use enough.Put in the bowl what you would normally put in, then put some more. Huskysibe
I received some Tangiers Watermelon today, let me start by saying thanks to Sonthert and SmokeMojo for providing insight into how to smoke this wonderful stuff. I have been reading Sontherts tips in various posts for a week now but when I read SmokeMojo's tip in this thread I followed it to a "T". Packed a bunch of Tangiers into my bowl, then packed some more and covered in foil and jammed 30 random holes in it and lit it up. Let it warm up for 5 mins and enjoyed the sensation. Holy crap this stuff has a LOT of smoke! Nice Buzz and it lasted 2X longer than anything else I have smoked. Wow, is all I can say. I am a believer in Tangiers now. Thanks Sonthert for such a quality product. Billy
