Seandoo
Hey, all. After checking out the site for a few days I decided to make an account so I'm the new guy =). I've read a decent amount here on hookah flavors over the last few days, such as some of the better brands that make shisha. Thanks mushrat and wyteboy (among others, too) for as much as you've posted in this area. I've been looking for a really great double apple that has a bite but doesn't taste like black licorice, yet to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks ahead of time... -Sean
Mathazar
Go to: www.Hookah-Shisha.com and get Romman Double Apple. It's under Premium Tobacco. I've tried a few different Double Apple brands, such as Al-Fakher and Nakhla, and the one that best describes what you're requesting IMO is Romman Double Apple. I LOVE the stuff. To best describe it, I would have to say that it tastes exactly like Ouzo. Ouzo is a liqour that tastes like black licorice, but only MUCH better. Well, that's exactly what Romman Double Apple tastes like, it's cool and refreshing. It's MUCH stronger than Al-Fakher or Nakhla. I usually order several boxes of the stuff, but I'm currently out, otherwise I would send you a sample. $20 might seem like a stiff price tag to pay for 250 grams of ma'assel, but you'll thank yourself for ordering this stuff
Mathazar
Also, to save money on your order, just in case you're planning on ordering more than one flavor, Hookah-Shisha has a 5 flavor offer. I reccommend you get 2 Romman Double Apple, and 1 each of Peach, Lemon, and Strawberry. I don't think you'll be disappointed
wyteboy
Hey Sean, glad to help and taht all the reviews helped you!! I was beginning to think I was starting to annoy people around here or something. Feel free to PM any time with questions. It seems Romman and AF are pretty much the most respected brands here with some votes for Nakhla too in its own right, just not my thing. For AF I have to strongly recommend the Golden Seal Eskendari Apple, the regular Strawberry, Grape and Cherry. If you want a Peach a lot of people love the Romman but the White Peach from Fumari is fantastic! Also Fumari Watermelon is one of the very few universally loved flavors on this board. Take care!! Mathazar
Those Fumari flavors DO taste great, but I've found that they give me a sore throat. wyteboy says he hasn't had that problem. Stay away from Fumari Double Apple, it's flavorless, as are MOST of their other flavors.
alen
mayby the al amir triple apple could be what you looking for-i never tried it myself but ppl around here say that its has many differnt apple flav in it but no licorice (think mo reviewed it on his premium thread)-good hunting Alen
Seandoo
Hey, all and thanks for your suggestions. Sorry for those I left out in my thanks of reviews haha there's a bunch of knowledgable shishasmokers out there =) Anyway I'll be sure to try the Eskandarinarhearfbhoui apple flavor I keep reading about - sounds like pretty much everybody enjoys it. Maybe I'll have to take you up on your offer, Mush - I suppose it would be good to try various double apples to see which one tastes close to what I'm looking for. If you or anybody would like to trade some shisha I have a 250 nakhla coffee and 250 al waha honey I'm looking to get rid of - almost threw the coffee one out till I found the forum and saw that people actually trade/give out shisha samples - what a brilliant idea ahah. There's nothing wrong with the 250's, but coffee likes to take over my hookah until I clean it several times, and though the honey's good, it's not supersweet like some of the mouth-watering fruity flavors I've tried. I've also got 3 and a half boxes of 50 licorice (double apple haha) that came with my 4-inch hookah that I'm looking to get rid of as well. Anyway, thank you for the suggestions - I might try the samples that Mathazar spoke of, or the 3x al amir apple. Your responses were lightning fast! Thanks again -Sean
King Mo
If you want a double apple taste with very mild liquorice, there's Golden Bahraini apple. There is also Al Fakher double apple, which has some liquorice but it is a nice flavour. As for Romman, it is a good smoke, but quite possibly the most liquorice-y flavour on the planet. I don't know what Ouzo is because I don't drink, but I can imagine it tastes like pure liquorice if it tastes anything like romman double apple. I think it is worth repeating, Romman double apple is PURE liquorice. I can handle it so it smokes ok with me, but if you don't like liquorice, then it will go straight to the bin. Mathazar
Okay, it tastes like licorice, but it's IMO absolutely THE BEST Double Apple I've tasted. My opinions differ with many people here because I prefer Romman Double Apple over Al-Fakher. Al-Fakher in my opinion just doesn't have that extra "BITE" to it. Romman Double Apple has that "BITE" that you spoke of. Just for the matter of mentioning, btw, ALL Double Apple flavors taste like licorice. Al-Fakher, Nakhla, Romman. And those are all good flavors, but IMO Romman is by far THE BEST!!! It's just SO cool & refreshing. If you're looking for a Double Apple with a bite, Romman is the way to go
mushrat
Hmmm... wonder how the Romman goes up against the Sara. Anyone who's tasted the Romman want to try the Sara? Both cypress and mr bubble think VERY highly of it. In the name of science I'd be happy to send out samples of the Sara for comparison.
MR Bubble
Mushrat, I'd be happy to try some of the Sara xx-apple. Seriously, did you find any information on that stuff? Like info on how some of us lesser folk can buy it? I'm seriously rationing out the remainding bit to myself MR Bubble
ZooJohnnyZETA
Hmmm... yeah, I don't know of any Double Apple flavors that have no licorice taste to them at all. The closest thing I can think of to a D-Apple with no licorice is Al-Amir Double Apple. Theres no licorice flavor on the intake but after a couple minutes of smoking you start to notice a licorice coating slowly accumulating in the back of your throat. But if you want an Apple flavor without the licorice then I highly recommend Nakhla Single Apple. Its been one of my favorites for years and I always keep some around. But if you do go that route then be sure to buy a glass jar of it. I find that the jars always taste phenomenally better than the boxes do. Much more wet and fresh If you can get your hands on some Nakhla Eskandarany Apple you would probably enjoy that a great deal as well. Its a strong and sweet apple flavor with a nice lemony undertone that really elevates and refreshes the smoke. However, in the event that you have a general dislike for Nakhla products then Al-Fakher (among other companies) makes some really good options. The Al-Fakher GS Eskandaraini Apple is deffinately one I will always have on hand and usually reserve for special occasions. Even though the name is the same as the Nakhla version, with the exception of a slight spelling difference, its a very different smoke. Instead of tasting sweet and lemony like Nakhla's it has a very pleasent green apple flavor and a certain "bubbley" quality to the smoke that almost feels like carbonation in your lungs. Its a decidely unique massell that I think everyone should try at least once. But like I said, there are many other really nice options for Apple flavors out there. Its been said by a many that Al-Fakher's single Apple and GS Bahraini Apple are very good as well, although I've never tried them. Romman's single Apple tastes very much like Nakhla's Eskandarany in it's sweet lemony flavor and can be very appealing at times. And although I havnt posted a full review of it yet, I can deffinately assure you that HookaH HookaH's Apple flavor is really a thing of beauty. I can't say too much about it right now, as my full review hasnt been posted yet... but I assure you that you'll hear much more about it later on

mushrat
sure did mr bubble, you resend me your address and I drop a tub of it in the mail for you... Doesn't get easier than that. But Actually I haven't gotten the chance to look around. The tub doesn't have any info and I've thrown out the box. I'll get you a tub this weekend or early next week and get it out to you. MR Bubble
I Googled, Dogpiled, and MSN'd it and couldn't come up with anything more than Sara Lee. Go figure. MR Bubble (Formerly MR Grumpy Gills)
Seandoo
So it turns out that the double apple flavor I had a bad experience had menthol in it...which is really friggin weird. It didn't really taste much anything like the 2x apple's I've tried in the past...just some weird fruitmint taste. The overpowering licorice taste I spoke of was from trying the 2x apple in my 4-inch hookah with coal that burns its metal bowl way too hot, so after experimenting with my fullsize I found it was the menthol that made the whole thing taste gross. It was confusing too...it's hard to tell if the shisha's getting too hot or if it's just the menthol because the feeling is very similar in the lungs. Hahaha who puts menthol into a straight (not mixed) flavor of shisha??
Seandoo
To answer my own question: Nakhla puts menthol in their 2x apple. I had a hard time finding who made the shisha when looking at the box...but recognized it at hookahshihsa.com instantly. Do most 2x apple's have menthol in them??
MR Bubble
The answer to your question is Yes. I know (off the top of my head 3 who seem to use menthol: Al Waha, Al Amasi, and Nakhla (lighter on the menthol). I recently tried 2 companies regular apples and they seemed to have menthol in them as well: Habibi and Abed Alkader (which I'll do a review on shortly) MR Bubble
mushrat
Menthol? I thought that cooling flavor was the black licorice (anise). Never noiced the a menthol taste to the Nakhla myself.
Seandoo
So mush, where did you say you picked up the sara from? I'm looking for a small 50g box of it just to see what it tastes like...after trying a few different 2x apple's (though I have yet to try my Al Fakher and Al Waha) such as Nakhla and Saet Safa, I'm really not as closed to the black licorice bite...it was the menthol. I'll be sure to try my AF and AW double apple's to see what they're like, but for now I'm trying to get a hold of almost any 2x apple I can get my hands on...I might have a romman sample coming my way from a trade, and I might try to see if the place in Huntington Beach that I go to has Al Amir or anything else I haven't mentioned. Anyway sorry I keep bouncing my thread back, but it's an ongoing quest =)
mushrat
Well, I get it at a local greek/lebanese cafe here in Raleigh. PM me your address I'll get you out a sample. If it's an active topic...keep it going.
Seandoo
Haha thanks for the support mush Last night I tried out the AF Double Apple...turns out that's got some menthol in it too. It wasn't as much as in the Nakhla, so it was more tolerable, but not the best imo. Seems the ma'assel or shisha or what it is you like to call it lasted only about 30-45 mins before it started tasting really funky. Anyway just keepin it alive =)
Seandoo
I found the thread! -bump- So yeah I'm planning on ordering some Al Amir double apple if I can find anywhere that sells 50g jars for decent price other than Hookah House due to the shadiness and lack of any of the forum users' experiences. Just in case any body else is looking for any Double Apple information I figured this thread is rather thorough and excessive =) Tried both Sara and Romman, long time ago, thanks for the samples. I remember both to be pretty good. Still looking for the specific one, Al Amir might be it. I'll find out soon I suppose =)
Seandoo
-update to the quest- Ordered 3 Starbuzz flavors (SocialPack - VERY worth the 45 bucks! sells 25 bucks each most other places...). "Exotic Apple" "Exotic Kiwi Strawberry" and "Exotic Sour Apple". Yeah I think they call everything exotic, even vanilla! Okay so anyway... Tried the exotic apple flavor yesterday - well to start off, there's a red and a green apple on the front so my brother and I just kind of looked at each other like oh man this isn't going to be single apple, is it...? With the smell of the container there was a good premonition of anise. Uh oh. This could turn out kind of weird. I load it up anyway and let me tell you....yes it's a double apple flavor even though it's not advertised that way. It's actually the best double apple I've had so far! Who would have thought, huh? Excellent thickness of smoke (duh...it's Starbuzz!), excellent taste that wasn't like nyquil but still had a strong double apple flavor, slow but strong onset of the buzz (.5% like nakhla and splash so it'll mess you up after a while) and one hell of a long session with Nour coals (got them yesterday). Not sure if it's Starbuzz or the coals but we both got mad headaches about an hour after we stopped. That part was unpleasent. Anyway if you're a fan of double apple then pick up starbuzz exotic apple. You can feel it coat your tongue with the flavor, I'm not joking. Feels like it seeps into your body. Amazing.
