Please Help With Base/stem Seal.

Recommended Posts

I would tape it to the glass, then squeeze the rubber gromit into the vase (if that makes sense)

Cleaning is just a pain in ass though with the tape in-situ. And you may need to re-do it every few weeks (depending on how often you use/clean the nargila)

You should be able to make a nice tight seal this way. Just add 1 layer at a time until your happy!

NO DUDE

get an old t shirt cut it into a thin strip but quite wide and wrap it around the bottom then plunk it into the base witih no grommel.

WORKS SO AMAZING i do this on my big hookah all the time, you get insane flavour out of it as opposed to with the grommel, and it works amazing.

its how they do it in the middle east.

Brownman, so you're saying, wrap cloth around the stem where the stem's grommet would be until I get a tight fit? Edited by Head Mahone

I'm pretty sure a quick trip to the plumbing section of your local hardware store could fix the problem. If you post a pic I could recommend a more specific solution.

Ahwahoo, there's a good pic in the review section here: http://www.hookahforum.com/26-Al-Fakher-Hookah-t11438.html

Everything looks fine in the pic. However, my grommet fits the stem but not the base. Scary when moving the coals around and you bump the bowl and the whole stem starts to sway!

So what you are saying is that the grommet is too small and doesnt completely fit in the neck of the vase?

That's exactly right. The ribs of the grommet never touch the inside of the vase. Therefor, the whole stem can rock back and forth while sittig in the vase.

You can buy replacement grommets on most of the major hookah websites for ~$5. If you need it today, I would take the one you have with you to Home Depot or Lowes or whatever and see if they have anything similar.

Figured that's what I'd have to do. Just been spending a lot of cash lately. What's with the whole electrical tape/grommet thing?....

I have been using a black tape that is more coarse than regular electrical tape, I found it in our tool drawers so I have no clue wether or not it is plumming tape or something else. I have had it on my grommet for monthes with no issue what so ever. Im sure if you check out your local hardware store though you can find some type of tape that would work wonders.

And you guys put the tape on the grommet instead of on the stem and then the grommet on the tape, correct?

Thanks again for the help.

i'd call the company and tell them you want a new grommet or you want a refund.. they want your money.. so they will send you a free grommet

Yeah, either shell out the cash and buy a new grommet or call the company.

Plummer's Tape did the trick boys! The stuff is great. I wrapped it around the grommet until I had a perfect fit. It even fit in between the ribs of the grommet. You should use that stuff anywhere you have a rubber seal/air leak. I'm at about 98% air tight and that's good enough for me.
