newsman Posted July 13, 2007 Share Posted July 13, 2007 If you're in a pinch without a grommet, wrap a couple (or even a few) layers of paper towel or newspaper around the stem before putting on the bowl. It works fine. That's the way I did it with my first hookah that I bought in Cairo. As a matter of fact, when I was over there, any place I smoked used newspaper. HookahPrincess Posted July 13, 2007 Share Posted July 13, 2007 Actually another way that I've done that keeps it super airtight is to cut a long piece of fabric about 2 inches wide and just wet it and wrap it tightly in the place that the grommet would be. Adjust the length by cutting it at the point where it needs a nice push to go into the vase. That'll keep it super tight and sealed. =) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
boomhauer Posted July 13, 2007 Share Posted July 13, 2007 when i lose my grommet i use that white sealant tape that plumbers use for pipe treads. doesnt melt from my tests of smoking using it about 15 times so far, they can take decent heat because they are supposed to take the max heat a water heater can put out in hot water and have it hit it and keep that temp for a while, only usable 2 possibly 3 times before it needs replacement. Worked pretty well, considering how universal those crappy Chinese bowls are made to be. Zuter Posted July 13, 2007 Share Posted July 13, 2007 I have a standard ceramic low profile bowl and it has a very wide opening for the grommit, so I just wrapped some duct tape around the top of my stem and doubled over half of it so the thickness is increased towards the top of the stem.Seems to work just fine for me and if I need to get it off it's a snap.
