insidius
So let's use this thread to get some Super Chief advice going. The first thing I've noticed from smoking only one bowl through it, is that it seems to require more heat than a standard bowl. This may just be my lack of hookah experience leaking through somewhere, though. I can good flavour with my Super Chief, but the smoke is seriously lacking.Anyone have any experience or tips with the Super Chief yet?
Shifty
Keep the holes in the foil focused around the edge, as well as your coal.
Sonthert
Yeah, too many holes is bad, I would think. I think a ring of holes around the outer edge of the bowl only would be best.

I probably put too many holes when I smoked my first bowl, then.I'll probably try again later tonight.
aldonb1
yeah from the design if you put a lot of holes closer to the center it will just pull more straight air down through, missing the shisha
insidius
Well, my second bowl was worse than the first. I just cannot get this thing to smoke. I didn't get ANY smoke this time around. I used two finger coals, a little over an inch long each, diametrically placed around the bowl and 1 ring of holes in the foil where the shisha would be. I'd move the coals every few minutes to light more shisha. After 15 or so minutes, still no smoke. Both bowls were Star Buzz.I r teh suck at Super Chief. Shifty
When I packed the bowl I tried pressing it into the groove you cant really tell here, but the shisha is very thin here.Holes, Mostly on the outside, a few in the middle2 Stargate finger coals, roughly over an inch per piece10 minutes into the session, bowl warmed and the clouds are good and thick. Sorry Sid, maybe you are "teh suxors" Edit : 45 minutes into the session, clouds are huge. Edited July 14, 2007 by Shifty

How much time does it take your bowl to heat up enough for smoke? I've been pressing my shisha into the grooves, too, maybe pressing too much (about a quarter of an inch of space between the shisha and the top of the rim of the bowl). I might try three coals to start the bowl and then take one off; I'm really not sure what else to try next. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. The shisha isn't touching the foil, not by much though. i'd say only 2mm or so. I'm not flattening the shisha down into the groove, just enough that it aint gonna move. Heating up enough for smoke took about 5-6 minutes of pulling. The clouds didn't start getting thick till 10-15 minutes in. I did add a third piece of unlit finger coal touching the 2 other pieces about 40 minutes in. That chunk was lit about 10 minutes later, all in all, the bowl lasted 1 hour 40 minutes, when I cleaned it out, it was completely spent. All the shisha was black, but not charred. If that makes any sense. Hope you get it to work man.

mrmonk7663
Alright, I am smoking the superchief for the first time as we speak. I loaded up SB Blueberry. Well, the shisha doesn't taste much like blueberries or smell like them either, but that's not the fault of the Superchief. Anyway, that aside, I put a single ring of holes along the outer edge of the bowl. I put one stick of Golden Japanese coals (4 pieces in a cross shape) Guys, no bs here, I got smoke off of my 2nd inhalation. By inhalation number 5, the smoke was thick. This was during the 1st 45 seconds, it did not take 5-6 minutes at all. The clouds are descent, I have no clue what this SB blueberry normally does though. Tomorrow, I will smoke some of my normal Shisha, probally some Al Fakher Orange out of it, as I am used to how it smokes with my Funnel. I'll let you know how it compares with this, but as of right now, the Superchief is working just fine for me. But like I said, I can't comment on taste variations yet as I have never done this SB before, so I'll post more tomorrow. Hope this helps.MikeAnd Shifty, I think the other poster meant if you put the coal on your bowl and lit it off another coal, and smoked while it was still lighting, that is where the extra CO would come into play. If you just light it, wait till its done before you smoke, it is roughly the same. Edited July 15, 2007 by mrmonk7663
mrmonk7663
Alright, today I threw in some Al Fakher Orange with a tad of Hookah Hookah Vanilla so I could finish it off. Use the Golden Japs again. Like last time, I had smoke on 2nd or 3rd inhalation, and it was thick within 45 seconds. Flavor was good. Smoke wasn't quite as thick as my previous funnel experience. Overall it worked fine. I'm gonna smoke some more out of this thing and see what else I can figure out. At this point in time though, although the SuperChief is smoking good and tastes good, My funnel with mod is still the champ for both taste and smoke.Michael
insidius
Had another smoke with the Chief tonight, much better.I used three pieces of finger coals instead of two, and Al Fakher Bahraini Apple. Flavour was great the whole time, smoke was decent but not super thick. Single ring of holes on the outside of the bowl. The extra coal made all the difference. I'd say I stopped smoking after about an hour or so.
