there is the other topic going on of what are you listening to now. now i want to ask what is your favorite decade of music? also what bands in there do you like the most?

Personally mine is the 80's, grew up on it so much it got stuck in my head but i also like the music from the 90's.

i like rush, bee gees, iron maiden, david bowie, GnR, metallica, NIN, Nirvana, Queen (i believe they where the 80's). this is all i can remember right now XD

so what is yours?

Hey Boomhauer!

I find it kinda hard to answer that with a straight answer.

Depends on my mood really -
90's for the thrash metal/rock
60's for that hippy hippy shake!
30's-50's for the big band music

I listen to all!

JD - not giving a straight answer!

every decade has its good music i have to agree with you and it all depends on your mood. only reason im stuck on the 80's is because i listened through that through all my childhood and through most of the 90's (only 20 years old)because my parents controlled the radio so only listened to what they wanted to listen to.

I don't think I can say that I have a favorite. I pretty much love music from the 50's all the way up to now.

Hmm this is a hard one to answer. Lets just say from A-Ha to Zerbahead. (70/80's - 07')

Maybe The Beatles era even though i'm not born yet at that time.

Man, this is a really hard decision... I'm a metalhead, and IMO the best metal is from the 1990's. True, there is lots of great metal from the 1980's and the 2000's, but personally my favorite music is generally from the 1990's. That's when the melodic Gothenburg style of metal was in full swing. Opeth, In Flames, At the Gates, Dark Tranquillity, Arch Enemy, etc... cool.gif

Difficult call there. I like alot of late 60's early 70's stuff. Like Black Sabbath, Mahavishnu Orhestra, King Crimson, To a lesser degree Led Zeppelin, Rush and Frank Zappa. My favortie band ever came out in the late 80's. I would guess most never heard of King's X, but they are the best live band I've ever seen. They are still touring and are still great. If you ever get the chance to see them, go! Best trio ever (other than Rush and Cream! LOL)

Opeth is *amazing*. Definitely somewhere in my top 5 of bands. Usually I would agree on the part of the 90s, but one metalhead band that has moved up high in the Pantheon is Mastodon and these guys are 21st century ordeal. Also, I think the band Isis has come into their own since '00.

But Opeth, I saw them at that special showing in Manhatten where they had the dancers interpreting Deliverance. Amazing show. They are truly top notch. Ghost of Perdition was pure bliss. The only thing is, now that it seems the band's makeup is changing, I'm wondering how well the band will turn out? Sometimes original band members leave but sometimes the band just gets better (read: Tool). I kind of have always gotten the impression that Akerfelt is the glue to Opeth.

Hmm... I'm getting more and more into classic rock (70's, EARLY 80's), but there will always be a love for the rock from 1994 smile.gif

On another tangent, I have no idea what happened to music. Everything sucks so much right now sad.gif

classic rock is always good. i also like classic soft rock a lot and got so much of it, i think it takes up about 10gb+ of my library. the music of today sucks depending really on your stance on it. some of it can be good depending where you look but a lot of it is bad. everyone will remember 2000-2009 as the decade of shit music tongue.gif

Late 70's to late 80's. The birth of hardcore punk rock and 80's hair metal.

Definitely... If you couldn't tell, Opeth is my favorite band biggrin.gif. I saw them in Chicago for one of their three Chronology shows, and they were amazing -- and that wasn't long after they signed on the new drummer. I'm not worried about their future, because, after all, Akerfeldt is Opeth. From what I understand, he pretty much writes all the music anyways. Sure, Lopez and Lindgren will be missed, but their replacements are just as metal. \m/

I'm a fan of Mastodon as well... they definitely don't get enough recognition.

I would love to see Tool. I've seen the Juliana Theory a couple of times. Each time their lead singer was wearing leather pants. Gross!

Ya know... Both times I went to see NIN, Trent Reznor was wearing leather pants. And even though he's 40-some years old, he looks as good as ever and I'd still nail him XD

I definitely agree. smile.gif I saw them once with my friend, and they were amazing. A Perfect Circle was great live too, although my favorite of those would have to be Porcupine Tree.

I paid out the butt for front row center, but it was worth every penny. Four shows, woulda been five, but a friend was in town and I couldn't get a good seat.

(Maynard convinced me I needed a cowboy hat too.)

70's by far an all time fav.

i really do enjoy some classic/romantic composers, puccini, tchaikovsky, wagner, (mozart, beethoven, bach, but come on duh?)

but the late 90's to current has grenated an awesome post-punk/hardcore movement (i love to screem), and there have been some awesome new-psydellic music that i love (dungen is in currently in heavy rotation on itunes)
