web250_is_mad
My gf is coming up to NY from VA Beach this weekend, and she recently tried hookah and wants to try again. My hookahs are down at school, but I had already planned on taking her into the city. So I figure to kill time before dinner with a smoke. Any suggestions on a good (ie: good tobacco, good service) hookah bar in NYC (I know there are tons!)
Hobocans
As far as quality, I think all hookah bars in NYC are pretty much the same these days. If you want to combine dinner and shisha into one location, check out Horus Cafe, its on Avenue B and 10th St. They have awesome food and the shisha is as good as anywhere. If you really want to impress her with an experience, take her to Astoria, Queens. Thats where the real hookah cafes are in NYC. Take the N/Q/W train towards Queens and get off at the Astoria Blvd stop (Not Astoria-Ditmars; its the second to last stop). Find 28th Ave, head East until you hit Steinway. Take a left and walk a couple blocks. Its really not that bad to get there, and the neighborhood is really cool (very good Greek food in the area). The shisha is cheap and authentic. There will be a lot of Egyptians there, but its not unusual for non-Egyptains to by also playing backgammon and drinking tea while puffing on some Nahkla. Here's the link: http://www.yelp.com/biz/EcS4wrSkKXN2WgXroJzC-Q
SafeSearchOff
My brother and his girflriend found a bar in NYC that also claims to make its own shisha on site, though I never really believed him. I'll see if I can get a location for you though, I heard their Rose flavor is phenomonal.
Hobocans
You might be talking about Casbah Rouge. That was by far the best hookah bar in NYC (it was in the Upper West Side). Nice stainless steel pipes and in house tobacco. Last I heard, they closed up shop and its becoming a Chipotle. Sad.
