Repair/jb Weld. Help!

Recommended Posts

I have a 36 inch 4 hose 360 degree rotating hookah. It was recently broken at a party and at a friend's advice I repaired it with JB Weld. Essentially the pipe that goes into the water/vase from the body broke off. It broke off right where it begins to protrude from the body and into the vase (right above where the pipes connect to the vase, inside the vase). My only option to repair it, as a result of the pieces no longer coming apart, was to slather some JB Weld down (or up) into the metal piece of the body that screws onto the vase (the piece where the pipe broke off from). The Weld formed an airtight seal and did its job, but I ran into a few problems.

First off, because of the way the pipe broke, a small amount of JB Weld dripped into the body while drying. As of now I have a very thing line of weld running along the inside of the body from the tip (where the bowl sits) all the way down to where the pipe originally broke (I let it dry upside down). Furthermore, I now have a significant amount of JB Weld that will come into contact regularly with the smoke because of where I had to repair it. Essentially all the dried JB Weld is now at the top of the vase/body.

I've seen people post that JB Weld is non-toxic. I guess my question is, given the problems I have, do you think it will be safe to smoke from this Hookah any time soon? And if so, do you think the smoke flavor will suffer as a result of the JB Weld? And finally, if not, are the body sections for Hookahs pretty much universal in terms of size/ability to screw onto any vase? If so, does anyone know where I can buy one? I'd like to replace the body if so because the base, vase, hose, and bowl are all still fine, and it'd be a waste not to use them.

Thanks for your help, I'm new here but plan to stay for awhile!

true dat, I've used even (:\) used JB weld to repair a water jacket on a cyllinder head. To a point, it actually gets harder when heat is applied, when it's set.

I guess I'm just worried about it giving off fumes of some sort that will be toxic/screw up the smoke's flavor, not so much that it will melt.

Look for the heat ratings on the JB Weld product you used. Typically they can handle high heats before any degradation takes place.

The heat rating is 600 degrees.

It should be fine.  Shisha smokes around 200 degrees.  Try a bowl, see if you get any uncommon tastes, if so, discontinue and relace.

I'm going to replace it, hopefully! I called thehookah.com today and they said they carry replacement bodies for The Queen, but they have none in stock currently. They're calling me tomorrow to let me know when/if they'll get more. Fingers crossed!

You have a rotator? Good luck getting a replacement. Many rotators, even rotators from the same company will have different threadings and the like. You may just have to get a whole new one. People who break rotator jars also find out the reality of them, trying to match threadings. Some threads are relatively common, others rare. Ordering from the same company you bought it from increases your chances slightly. Good luck!

The guy I talked to on the phone from thehookah.com (forgot his name) made it sound like this wasn't the first time he was replacing a stem for The Queen, so hopefully it'll fit ok. The original was even pretty hard to screw onto the jar, so who knows.
