im going on just the computer thing it was talking about how it will be the same as a human brain soon.

if humans only use 10% of their brains as is what i have heard time and time again then how will we be able to know what the human brain is capable of entirely so they cant guess when a computer will beat the human brain. it will be unknown if opening an additional 1% will really only give only 1% more of brain power or a huge amount because its unknown exactly what the human brain can do. the computer only does what you tell it so it is a one path machine which is limited to its user. its limited to its coding entirely and can not do so many things at the same time.

a human brain and do an unknown amount of things at the same time. when you are walking do you think of it as just walking? at the same time you are breathing which involves the brain to send/recieve messages about that, then the sensation when you clothes touch your chest by that it sent to your brain. then there is the blood flowing which you dont feel but your brain "controls" (doesnt really) your heart.

then there are the hundreds of thousands of calculations involved in just walking. you think of walking as just nothing but your brain has to keep making many many many calculations about what it is doing and what to tell your body to do. it is calculating how to move the leg, how much power to use, where to put the foot down at, how much pressure will be put on that foot due to the step, compensating for the shock your body will recieve from that pressure of the foot going down which means its controlling then your entire body at the same time to tighten up here, loosen there to make the shock feel minimal. then there is it interpreting sight/sound/touch while doing that and if an animal runs right where your about to step it will almost instantly compensate for that and make your step go elsewhere or stop the movement all together which is also a shock to your body because of all the momentum which it has to absorb to stop quickly. this is all with just 10% of the brain which most people dont use entirely because walking is just a normal task which we never think about and is done automatically. more things can be written here but i went off on tangents and lost myself and dont know what i wrote and will get lost if i do because i have also already lost my train of thought.

We can only use 10% of our brain at one time. I just watched the video, and damn... Ever get the feeling that you're just a rat on a sinking ship?

Also, a good portion of our brain stores memories. How the hell does it do that? Beats me. Some sort of either chemical change or electrical charge of the matter, but that's stupid complex too.

Either way, It'll be interesting to see what happens to the world in the next 20 years. I think the US will become significantly less powerful as China steps in and begins to dominate.

That second video is pretty ill. I was reading a news article about this thing Hitachi just developed almost exactly like that. You put on this helmet thats hooked up to the control of a toy train set. The dude told the lady to do simple math calculations in her head, like 2+4, etc. the helmet detected the subtle changes in blood flow and made the train move, but when she stopped the calculations, the train stopped too >.<
can't wait till this is refined for hte general public!

Some of this strikes me as just plain sensationalist, while some of it is very relevant.

Examples of sensationalism: the bit about learning things and those things being outdated in two years; in technical fields, this is true, but this is why you teach students patterns of thinking and abstract concepts, so they can transfer their skills easily and fluidly. As a software engineer, it's absolutely true that I'm using different code libraries than I did just a few years ago. Yes they are different, but because I understood the concepts behind them, the specifics were not difficult to grasp.
