wyteboy
curious the various methods ppl have used to remove the green rust on the inside of the stem? pouring water through while removing some green liquid, actually worsens the rust on the inside of the stem....what do you guys do who care about removing it? John Deere
If its green, then its not rust, its just tarnish. Unless you want to try hydrochloric acid, I'd get some tarnish remover or something, but if its not noticable on the outside I wouldnt worry about it. mushrat
A long stiff brush is a good idea. I use it everytime i rinse my stem. Check out the ones offered on most sites. Not the big bushy one for the Vase, but the linger skinny one. Thats for the inside.
John Deere
I wanted to try to clean out my stem today because I was bored, and i found something that might help you. My hookah is really old, and I think the stem might be silver dipped, so I get a lot of green tarnish on it. for the inside of the stem, I took a string with a nail at the end ( for weight ) and made a loop at the other end. I cut up an old cloth in strips, and just stuck one through the loop, so basically I made a swab....kinda like cleaning a gun, if anyone has ever done that........anyway, I took some grain alcohol, and I soaked the cloth in it and I pulled it through. I used a few strips until it came out clean. It seemed to remove all of the tarnish. you probably should air it out when your done though. I just lit up my hookah, and it tastes so much better too. hope it helps.
mushrat
Well, that sucks. I'd try a little of everything then. Smack it around to loosen up the caked on crud, then hit it with the lemon juice. I've been thinking (a dangerous thing for me) about the possibility of getting a thin steel rod, afixing some sort of cord with little knots in it juuuust big enough to fit into the hole and using that as a hose reamer. Kinda like an old gun cleaning cord. Hmmm.... Good luck...
As A Matter of fact I do know what you mean.
John Deere
Scary.....I actually did get the idea from a gun cleaning rod. I have one that I use for cleaning my shotgun (yes the one I keep behind the seat of my red pickup truck.....god im such a stereotype...) but that has gun oil and stuff on it. I need to get a cleaning rod exclusivly for my hookah I think, It would be easier than the string, and you could clean more agressively with it, since its solid. I have a brush too, but I dont think it works as well.

cypress
Is it actually worth making. I mean does it taste good enough to drink or is it something to remove grease and get drunk off of at the same time.
mushrat
Ahh...white lightning... Being from North Carolina I'm familiar with that as well.... When made properly its nectar of the gods...made poorly and you'll go blind. Literally.
John Deere
I dont personally care for it, I think It tastes like paint thinner. I'd rather use it to clean my hookah.
cypress
I have never tasted paint thinner but I will keep that in mind.
mushrat
I've had some REALLY smooth shine. Applejack (apple moonshine) and Peach are even better than plain ole corn squeezings. Smooth going down, hit your stomach and BOOM! Straight for the head! It would be interesting in a hookah, but i suspect the fumes would ignite. Blow the bowl straight off the stem, if you were lucky....shatter your base more like.
John Deere
Yeah I think that combo would end up in a visit from your friendly local fire department.
