Ever Feel Hungry After Smoking?

Recommended Posts

It's been wierd. The last two times I've smoked I felt really, REALLY hungry but couldn't eat. The first time I made myself a pizza and ate half a slice and just couldn't eat anymore. When I made the pizza I felt like I could destroy the whole thing myself yet for some reason I couldn't even finish a single slice. The second time it happend, which was tonight, I only ate half of my blackened salmon. I LOVE SALMON!
Just wondering if anyone else has done this because it makes me feel blink.gif .
It doesn't happen every time I smoke. Just last Monday night and tonight for some reason.

I don't know if this matters but the first time was with Romman(?) Mint and the second time was with Havana B.Apple.

Hookah usually curbs my appetite, and I've found it to be an effective weight managment tool. Essentially, it just keeps me from eating at night because I have smoke.

I only get the food jones when I'm smoking and drunk, and that's then sushi delivery until 4 a.m. comes in real handy.

high nic tobaccos give you a nic-hunger, ravenous, but easily satiable. this can be prevented by eating beforehand, and drinking while smoking. also i've found if you get too much of a nic-hunger, you will, i repeat, will, vomit, no matter how much tums or pepcid you take.

Son of a... so that's what's been happening sad.gif My metabolism's crapped out on me and my muscles are withering away because of the severe dip in my appetite. I've been lifting weights like a maniac and downing as much animal protein as possible (meaning not too much because of aforementioned problem), but I still haven't been getting nice curvy muscles as fast as I used to...

Ho-Ly CRAP!
I'm moving to Berkeley, CA right now!
I love sushi. I don't think if I could get it delivered I would eat anything else.

Eating before hand? Is that like right before bucause I usually eat dinner at 7pm and light up at 9-10pm?
I do drink a lot of water while I smoke. I can tell because my friend and I developed the 'after shisha piss'. unsure.gif
Thanks for the help. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't just freaking out after I smoked.

nicotine seems to have laxative like effects. it also is an anti-diuretic.

however, if youre smoking washed tobacco, none of that should really matter.

in theory, smoking flavored unwashed tobacco should curb appetite tremendously. the mind would associate the calorieless-flavor and thus lower weight set point. this practice of disassociating flavor from calories would be very strange though (i mean in theory). it is similiar to smoking cigarettes however the flavor association is made quicker with flavorful tobacco.

it always makes me hungry...its weird...cuz i dip every once in awhile (chewing tobacco) and it makes me not wanna eat for the rest of the day pretty much...but a hookah session makes me really hungry....but EXACTLY like you said...cant eat much once i make/get something...

and...after both cases (dip and hookah) i always have to take a crap...lol... Edited by Ehagen8008

i thought nicotine WAS a diuretic...it is a stimulant and increases your blood flow and METABOLISM (which is what most diet pills and diets are trying to accomplish)...

i dont know about the whole flavor thing...but im like 99% sure nicotine IS a diuretic...

Its very hard to say. It is definitely not an diuretic though. It has been well established that cigarette smoking stimulates increased plasma AVP. AVP is Arginine Vasopressin, a antidiuretic hormone synthesized by the hypothalamus and secreted by the posterior pituitary gland. A statistically significant increase in AVP was seen after smoking both high (1.2 mg) and low (0.6 mg) nicotine content cigarettes. However, the study I am looking is hesitant (fair enough) to link AVP development to Nicotine as serums produce in conclusive results.

However, nicotine has also been suggested to be implicated in idiopathic edema. The example has been given that if a patient smokes several cigarettes after a water load, there is a fall in urine output because of stimulation of the posterior pituitary gland and release of antidiuretic hormone. Therefore, the constant supply and stimulation provided by a nicotine patch could lead to chronic overproduction of antidiuretic hormone. Obviously hookah is no nicotine patch, but this fact seems to remain true.

While Hookah smoke is not an anti-diuretic, it has the potential to be linked to anti-diuretic production. Edited by Scoop

Yeah, hookah with nicotine seems to create that same emptiness caffeine does (it might be that they are both alkaloids). As a stimulant, it will curb your appetite and make you stretch between meals more so. It makes your hunger less for longer. Just observations, doctor!

then maybe i am confused as to the exact definition of diuretic then...because i know that nicotine does increase blood flow and metabolism...and a slow/fast metabolism is directly related to weight in most cases...

By reducing the appetite and raising the metabolism, some smokers may lose weight as a consequence. It also allows the mouth to be stimulated without food and the taste of tobacco smoke may curb the appetite.

also...anybody ive ever known to quit cigarettes..or try to....or stop for a period of time...have gained weight... Edited by Ehagen8008

diuretic = "tending to increase the excretion of urine"

smokers who stop gain weight for 2 reasons
1) the increase in metabolism through nicotine is gone. metabolism slows
2) the set weight is raised because the calorie-less association of flavor of the smoke is gone

This is your new favorite website:

www.getnudesushi.com

Only in Berkeley sushi delivery 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. Monday to Saturday. It's great because you order online with a credit card and they show up 30 min to an hour later--when you're drunk, you don't make an ass of yourself on the phone! Standard sushi bar fare, but quality, especially for delivery.

Sorry if I sound like an advertisment, but just some advice as a one hookah / sushi lover to another. Oh yeah, as far as I know, unagi is cooked, so it'll keep in the refridgerator if you find out you're not really hungry. Dynamite roll rocks.

Oops. I think what I meant to say came out wrong.
I meant when I said I'm moving is that I wanted to move there not that I'm actually moving.
My bad. =P

I think nicotine is anti diuretic and an appetite stimulant. First of all you're going to urinate less when you're dehydrating your body.

I've also read somewhere and this could be entirely false, but some of the active makeup of tobacco plants share traits with the hoodia gordonni plant which has slammed the diet pill market in recent years. Hoodia Gordonni is some plant that tribesmen in Southern Africa would eat before going on hunts. It apparently "tricked" their mind into thinking they had eaten more than they actually had. So they could eat a very small portion and feel entirely full. I can see where that would come in handy when on a long hunt too.

As for myself, when I smoke generally I don't eat.. In fact I can remember very few times that I have. I usually drink a big cold glass of ice water, or another smooth natural beverage like tea. By the time I finish, I'm usually ready to go to sleep..

My friend dubbed the urge to crap, the "Shisha Shits". Which I feel is named deservingly so.

ok...i was thinking diuretic is something that would aide in losing weight (more/less)...in which case nicotine is....

as far as having to urinate....i cant seem to tell a difference....
