Licorice flavor out + tobacco import!?!

Recommended Posts

OK so I was feeling sort of nauseous and had a real unpleasant taste in
my mouth from the licorice in the bahraini so I packed a big bowl of
strawberry after washing my hookah to try to "smoke out" the licorice
flavor and to get a nice strawberry taste in my mouth.  to no
avail.  this gross licorice aftertaste was EXTREMELY powerul
through the hole smoke.  I just cleaned and poured water through
the stem and hose a ton of times to try to rinse it out and am letting
it try but I just puleld on the hose like an hr later and the air still
tastes like licorice, BLEH

Am I basically just gonna have to smoke through it say when I get the
Grape in or some flavor REALLY non licoricey or would washing with
lemon juice or something cure the aftertaste instantly?

Also I am extremely annoyed at Tobaccoimport to be honest.  First
they send a package COMPLETELY OPEN and LOSE their LAST 50g pack of gs
af esk apple.  THEN when they offer to replace it with bahraini, I
SPECIFICALLY ask if there is ANY licorice taste to it because I do not
want that and he says "No, zero licorice, it tastes exactly like a red
delicious apple, you will really liek it, no licorice."  Well
everyone can make a mistake (with the pkg) so I decide to trust him I
guess and take it, what else can I do anyway, they have my money and
lost the flavor I want so I ahve to get SOMETHING as a
replacement.  NOW I smoked this bowl full of licorice flavor that
has currently really ruined the taste of my hookah.  UGH.

You should have a couple or three hoses on hand. Also, give your body a rest. Sometimes when you ge thold of something really pungent and nasty, You will still be tasting things in your thoat and mauth for a while. You know, like after a good hangover barf. Tomorrow, you may taste different.

It will eventually blend and go away. You might need another dominate
flavor to get rid of it. Also you might need to brush your teeth and
wash your mouth to get that licorice flavor out.  I would think
since you are sensitive to it is lingering in there.

I am surprised to hear you find the golden bahraini liquoricy. It is the least liquoricy double apple flavour I have tried.
as for the taste, make sure you clean your pipe and base, and use a different hose. Obviously clean your head as well.
next time you make a shisha, don't put the head on, leave the head off and smoke. If you can taste something, then you will know you have a dirty shisha. If you take out the hose and suck on the connector (if you have no replacement hose), then you can eliminate the 'dirt' causing factor, whether it's the dirty pipe, or the messed up hose.

I mean, when you put the water in the pipe and have everything ready,
bar putting the head on the shisha, pull through the hose and see if
you taste anything.

in an ideal world, if the shisha is headless, you will be sucking
flavourless air which means when you put the head on and the coal,
there is no external flavour that will affect your smoke (coming from
the pipe or hose).

If you can taste something, then you know that your shisha needs cleaning or the hose needs replacing/cleaning.

I'm not sure if I have explained myself clearly, but quite simply,
before you light your coals and place them on the head, remove the head
from the system, and just suck air (the water will bubble as normal),
but see if you taste any nasty tastes.

OK and if I do taste something like licorice, does that mean the hose is permanently gonna be that way?  I was hoping, like Cypress said, that by smoking through it with a few flavors, after a few more sessions that licorice taste will be completely gone...

I think it will eventually go away - I got a free box of liquorice
Al-Waha a while back and despite not liking liquorice in the first
place, I gave it a shot. Man it was nasty...I threw the rest of the 50g
box away and it took several cleanings and smoking sessions to
eventually get that taste out of there. Also, in my experience mint is
a generally dominante flavor, so if you like mint, you could give that
a shot too...

If you decide to go the separate hose route, try the washable hoses direct from myasaray.
If memory serves I paid about $7 US each - great price considering most
resellers charge double that for the metal-tipped hoses.  They are
very flexible and a snap to clean.
Bintag: of course it'll take a few more days to get the mint out....
This is true...I guess I was just giving an example based on my
particular tastes. I can tolerate mint, but liqourice/anise seed...ugh

Even though most of the old guys will yell at me for suggesting this,
suck up a big thing of hot water and lemon juice into your hose and
swish it around. Blow it out, and make sure it's dry. Made my hoses
taste brand new.

If it's a wahable hose, should be no problem. Nerv had a great idea about making sure it is completely dry: After you wash it out, go outdoors, hold ont oone end and swing yourself around in crcles a few times (I would suggest night time for this). The centrifugal force will suck the water right out of the hose. So don't be too close to the car.
when you say hold onto one end, you mean plug one end with a finger and twirl around?
How much lemon juice do you put into the hose? before you swish it around?  thanks guys!!
Don't matter if you plug one of the ends, the force will pull it all out the far end farthest away from you.

I pretty much pour it full...more or less....just get enough in so you can plug both ends and swish it back and forth. I actually do it 2 times then rinse. As far as the lasso part....you don't have to plug either end. I still hang mine up to dry even after though..just to make sure.
