One Time, I Had A Red Hookah

Recommended Posts

Well, I got my Sphinx from H-S.com a few months ago. I got the red one. It came in the mail and looked spectacular. I washed it all before I used it and I noticed a little red chip of paint on my finger. I looked at the base and there was a clear glass spot in the same shape as the thing on my finger.

So since then, the paint has been coming off more and more, and just yesterday, I washed it off after a session and the paint just seemed to explode off the base. Now, I have a clear hookah.

Anyone else have this happen? I'm not really mad about it, just wondering.

Nope!!

Are you sure they did not advertise it as a base that is red for a few months and then clear for the rest!!! tongue.gif

I had a small Chinese hookah that I thought was made out of colored glass. It wasn't. Whatever the glass was coated with was removed totally when I put it in the dishwasher. Now its clear too :-)

Man...I WISH my base was color changing. Bought it from a local shop where the only color was black--it is soo hard to judge when filling! I've been washing it with the hottest water I can handle, and it's still black. I guess that's a mark of quality, but I really want a clear hookah now.

Most colored egyptian bases are coated with the color, rather then being made of red glass, or blue, or w/e.

Happened to me with a black base. Never really chipped but my roommate decided to wash all the bases, and thats the only one that lost its paint. So I bought a white hose and white bowl to go along with it. I think I like it better clear, much easier to fill up.

Yeah I like some black bases, but more the ones that are mixed with other colours or clear, like the nemesis hookah base is really nice.

But yes it must suck like hell not being able to see how much water to put in!!

You put your base in the dishwasher? I wouldn't have thought that most of them were dishwasher safe. Well apparently some of them are not!

My friend did it with one of his once....turned out nice and clean.

But I would not risk putting mine in.....you don't know if the temperatures might be to high or something for the glass and then it breaks.

I bought a 3 hose mod hookah from H-S and eventually the black paint or whatever started flaking off, so we put stickers over the bad spots, and then the stickers fell off and pulled more flaking off lol. Just a cheap way to make colored vases i guess. It was my first hookah so i didn't know.

Hey guys,

The first hookah I ever got was a knockoff Sultan Animal Hookah (giraffe). As beautiful as it was, the green colored base started washing off almost immediately. Eventually I just took a knife to the base ohmy.gif , and cleared the remaining paint off. At first, I liked the way the clear base looked, but it slowly started to get coated with residue from the water, leaving a brown translucent-like finish on the inside of the base; very unappealing. I cleaned it after every smoke session meticulously, but the residue still spread. Even though the stem broke earlier this year sad.gif , I still kept the base for memory!! rolleyes.gif

Stryet: My friend has a black vase that you can't see anything through as well. We ended up etching a few marks on one side so we can see the water level. It works pretty well and you can't tell that there's a mark there, unless you specifically look for it. If your having trouble judging the water level, maybe give it a try.

Hmm... My parents broke a red antique glass lamp once, and when looking for a replacement they found out that gold was used somehow to make the glass.

They ended up bringing home this white (not clear) and pink striped glass shade. I hate it tongue.gif

Its not that uncommon. Better Egyptian jars are actually colored glass (They all were colored glass not too long ago). Now they are painting and chemically staining these jars...unstable. As you can tell. There was a time that the decorations on many jars were done with water-soluble paint and they'd just wash away. I had a Syrian jar, the first disappointing Syrian jar, I assure you, the fume and glaze both washed off, partially, but otherwise no complaints. Those Chinese jars for those animal hookahs are the worst. Edited by Sonthert
There's no U in Syrian.
