Z88
Hey guys. I have a sore throat, but I really want to smoke. Does anyone know if smoking will make it worse? Usually if I have a sore throat or a cold, I don't smoke cigarettes. But cigarettes are more harsh. Hm... -Z

ghostofdavid
Ugh! No Thanks. Smoking when sick is torturous.
stryet
I've done it before. Like arik said, I don't think it really helped much, but I don't think it made it worse either. Perhaps you could try smoking something soothing like menthol mixed with eucalyptus oil. Follow the recipes on cough drops. Might be fun to try. ioannisds
The complete absence of logic in this question always baffles me. What does your REASON tell you dude? There is your answer. I'm sure I have asked this question of myself before though, and I know I have (like an idiot) smoked when I was sick. And if I remember right, my throat stayed sore for like 3 times longer than it should have because of my stupidity. If you want to smoke, smoke, but I don't think you're gonna find anyone here who tells you it will be a good idea.
arik
As long as no one else smokes with you i guess.

Akkbar
all i know is when i have a badly stuffed up nose... i have a cigar, and it clears it right up.shisha does to, to a slightly lesser extent.in some countries, they drape tobacco leaves over their faces to fight off a cold. i dont know what countries, i just flipped through a national geographic saw a pic and read a caption. Calcartman
If you have to ask if smoking while sick is a bad idea, you probably should stop smoking anyway.
Allia22
Bah, it almost seemed to help when I was sick. Damn addiction... I imagine you shouldn't overdo it or you'll end up with a respiratory infection. Didn't happen to me, but people seem to be getting different results from this. nestormakhno
I smoked myself (with cigarettes) into bronchitis once. If you don't smoke a lot (I'd say even half an hour of continuous smoking is REALLY pushing it), you'll probably be fine. But if you want to get better faster, make some tea, take a nap, and get over your cold before it gets worse.
*HOT&SMOKING*
I would say pack in some mint if you have a blocked nose that should clear it up nicely-H&S

symptom CY
Agh, this is another one of those threads that makes my brain want to explode (and it's mostly Brownman's fault again. Buh-buh-buh-BAN!) Smoking while you're sick will probably slow your recovery -- hell, it's probably smoking that lowered your body's defenses and caused you to get sick in the first place. If you want to recover as quickly as possible, hold off on the smoking. I know it's hard -- I just started smoking again after a week and a half sick. tallerthanu2399
if your sinuses are clogged - throw some mint in and smoke only for a few minutes- that usually helps me.... then go take some nyquil and pass out.... hope you feel better
mushrat
heh, imagine how i felt with a head and chest cold and I HAD to smoke...took me 2 weeks to recover.
anathema
Sore throat and post nasal drip took 1 week longer to heal than the usual 2-3 days with 2 shared bowls almost every day.
