MR Bubble
Happy Friday! I finally ran out of Three Kings coals and opened the new Bright Star Coals I received with my smoking-hookah.com order. These are some of the weirdest quick-lights I've seen so far. And to think that I've seen weird. These are made in Greece, so when I saw that I just knew I was in for the good ol' olive pit treatment. The texture of the coal reminds me of running my finger across a rough stone grinding wheel. Very rough and porous. These seem to break in half somewhat easier than 3 kings with just a little crumbling involved. They also are a tad bigger. But the real kick comes on ignition. I usually break my quicklights into 3 or 4 pieces and place them on the electric burner of the stove. That way they light off when I'm about half way done poking holes. Works out good this way. Also, if the coal decides to blow chunks while lighting, it has the stove surface to land on instead of the floor, which = Bigger bonus. So, last night while prepairing mango, I heard this loud ruch of something. Reminded me of an air hose rupturing and A thick plume of white smoke rolling off of the burner. About 5 seconds the smoke cleared and there befor my eyes were 4 pieces of coal completely lit. No barely lit pieces needing to be blown on, but fully lit, bright orangish-red hot coals. You had to have been there. I had this lingering white mist through the house for a half hour. A little scary at first. The smoke has no noticeable flavor change. It seems to burn hot enough and there is no adjustment I need to make with my preparation. Last nights smoke was more than acceptable, while tonight's is a little weak (Nakhla apple) but I think I have a bad batch. Seems dryer than normal and the flavor just isn't there. Yep, bad batch: 15 minutes of smoke. The best part of these coals is that they don't have that funky blood pressure effect on me. That's always good news. I would recommend these if you are out of coals and just wanted to try something new. They do the job well enough. They just seem weird in a way, but there are no negative properties to them that I can tell. Oh, for a dollar or two more than Golden and 3 kings, you get 120 coals, with 6 coals in a roll. Hey, I'm happy with them. Oh, smoking-hookah.com seem to be good people. The one thing I didn't care for (besides their higher prices) was the lack of telephone support. I never got an answer from them. The only reason I persued the order was their chat operator was on line one day. I asked about their phone service and was told "We won't have any telephone support for the next few hours." They are based in NJ and have a distribution partner in Herzleya, Israel. Strange. But hey got the ball rolling quick enough and treated me good. So, I can recommend them as well. Be good and have fun. MR Bubble
