fame805
Lately the same has been happening to me. I've been getting, well, sick from either the smoke, taste, I dont know.I have tried AF shisha which was good, then Hookah-Hookah brand shisha, and now at my local smoke shop I purchased a rasberry flavor ( Which tastes like rose) and Double Apple flavor. These two flavors seem to be making me feel sick. Could it be the brand or is it because I'm possibly not used to it?Info would greatly help, Thanks. On the other hand, some shisha is caffeinated? Sonthert
QUOTE (Zemo @ Jul 25 2007, 11:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>So, I've never heard of the acclimation bit...how long should I let it "air out", and why? What does letting the shisha dry out a bit accomplish? Seems to me all the flavor is in the juices, so you'd want to keep as much of it as possible....hehe....I just realized the bowl of Kashmir Peach I smoked last night was from the juiciest part of a freshly opened bag...probably DRIPPING with nicotine, a la turbo-headrush...nice.Tobacco and glycerine have a natural tendency to absorb moisture from the air and form an equilibrium. There are two general classifications of tobacco, low-water brands (like Tangiers) and high-water brands (Like the other ones you named). Low water tobaccos form an equilibrium with the air that is disturbed when the humidity of the air changes. High water content tobaccos are too damp for the air, so they just dry out. Given enough time, high water content tobaccos will dry out until they reach that low water content level and start following the humidity level in the air. Unfortunately, high-water contents tobaccos have the flavor and smoke levels balanced around their water content, so when the water goes away, many flavors will be damaged, weak or just wrong and the tobacco will smoke poorly. Low-water content tobaccos will often have much, much longer shelf lives and the flavor will be stable for years. While actually smoking, low-water content tobaccos will also have more endurance in the flavor and smoke department.Acclimation is allowing the tobacco to get used to the outside air for 24 hours or so. If frequently takes less time, but 24 hrs. is usually enough.Nicotine is addictive and hookah tobacco is loaded with it. Tangiers lacks ammonia chemistry components that cigarette manufacturers add to make their product more addictive (and damaging, inadvertently). Stir your tobacco well before using! Keep the juice nicely spaced out or you'll be real disappointed with the last couple of bowls...start cursing my crummy product for not having a good shelf life. Its a common problem for people to, through a number of avenues, use most of the juice up early in the bag. Bad practice, of course, because the last couple of bowls are awful. I've never been able to bring myself to put stabilizers in the tobacco to keep it all nice and not need stirring. Always a pleasure to help a more senior member to myself.
