Epic Quest For A Phunnel Mod

Recommended Posts

So its not really epic, but I did go all over town to find something that works. I got a large phunnel without a mod, and since everybody swears by it, and because I don't want to pay $8 for a glass one, let alone wait, I decided to spend my Sunday afternoon looking for one. Since I live in Berkeley and don't drive, it did prove to be a little challenging.

I started by watching scalli's vids and ventured out to get a copper cap thingy. I started with the local electronics store to see if they had a thimble like thingy that would work. After waiting about 15 minutes for the guy to get done with another customer, I left with nothing. So it's off to the local hardware store on the other side of campus!

Get to the local hardware store, and of course it's busy. Spent a good hour in there having people put me in different directions, finally finding the plumming department in the basement. I asked the guy for a "copper cap," and he asks about the size. I show him my phunnel, and say I need something that fits on top. He shows me the caps they have--all really thick rounded dealies that don't look like they could be bent with say, a hammer and pliers, and he affirms this. Then he asks about my phunnel, and I try to explain how you smoke tobacco out of it--really awkward conversation.

I left disappointed and after wandering around town, end up at the walgreens three blocks from my house. Remembering reading about some people using tealight candles on the forum, I find some for 99 cents, and run home to do work.

I light one up and wait for it to burn out. After 10 minutes, I get impatient and just pry the candle out of another one. I bend the sides in for airflow, put it on, and it fits PERFECTLY! I load up some shisha, and with about 2 pulls, it's smoking great! Awesome flavor, no additional taste, and THICK SMOKE. Much thicker and flavorful than without the mod. I got some pictures for y'all to see.

Just pinch in the four sides for airflow. I used my fingers, really easy.

In large phunnel, underpacked to save shisha. (Plus some shameless advertising for the local record store.)

Yep. Don't forget to pinch in the sides for airflow. I forgot to show my setup, but I only poke 2 rings of small holes around the mod, and I use four quarters of Golden Japs in a cross. It's awesome, you don't have to move them, and they burn really evenly.

And Mark, yeah, Co&Ca is awesome.
