Iraqi Hookah Problems- HELP!

Recommended Posts

Howdy,

Recently my girlfriends father, who's been stationed in Iraqi, is
coming home. He started sending packages this week, and today I got 1/2
of a hookah (the bowl, he explains, is packaged with some other stuff
at Her brothers house, which I'll get when we all meet up this weekend).

I always wanted another hookah- I had one when I was younger, 10 years
ago, and loved it. This hooka has a sticker on the main shaft which
says "ESAM ELDIN". It's very, very poorly made, with burned spot welds,
a flimsy tin/aluminum tray, etc.

What concerns me, and I'm asking for help here, is that the shaft
smells like it's been smoked- A LOT. When I clean it with the brush
nothing but ash pours out. The mouth piece of the hose smells, and the
two clear rubber hose stoppers stink and are greasy with tobacco. The
bowl, which is a simple glazed terra cotta deal, is chipped and ragged,
and smells of Anise (licorice) tobacco.

Did I mention the mud and dust caked on it? Or the deep scratches in
the main shaft, the mud splattered all over the dented tin wind cover,
or the hand-cut/made coal tray which scratches the crap out of the
shaft?

Questions- Are there any worries about using someone elses (apparently)
hookah? This has got to be the worst hookah (at least condition wise)
I've ever seen. Any tips on sanitizing this thing, and the hose? I'm in
a pinch and won't be able to get a new hose (and it's the plastic kind)
before her father is due back in.

This thing really stinks. I'm not sure if he's trying to give me a
hint, or if he was just genuinely clueless about such matters, and
means for it to be something nice? (He has a local go into town for
him. If he asks for something, this guy buys it and then sells it to
him on base, though if that's the case, I'm sure the guy robbed him on
this)

Does anyone know anything about this ESAM ELDIN? I can't even google it

Thank you for all your help- regardless I'm deffinately going to
purchase a new hookah after this weekend, having been re-inspired!

LOL, as a fellow hookah smoker, I would suggest not to put your mouth anywhere close to that hookah. God knows what thats been used for and by who. I think diseases can be transferred through hooka, one example being psoriosis(correct me if im mistaken). In any case, smoking a used hookah from another country is out of the question for me when its as dirty as you described it. I mean, the guy might have sent it just as a souvenir. But it would be easier if you would buy a new one, if you could fit it into your budget. There are many websites which offer deals on hooka with accesories, you can try giving them a look. Please for your own health dont smoke taht hookah lol.

I dont know what it looks like, but as long as you get a new hose, and clean that sucker out GOOD, I personally dont think it should matter. My hookah is ancient, and has been used by probably a lot of people in the past, and I'm still alive. The hose is the important thing though. alcohol through the base and stem wouldnt hurt either.

Yeah, I think as long as you run all the pipes and such through a
dishwasher cycle maybe, and for sure sanitize the poop outta it, I'm
sure there isn't any reason why it should harm you. Most antibacterial
cleaners should kill any germs left on it, and then I would rinse it
with water a bunch to get rid of any cleaner residue/taste left on it
from the cleaning.

Although a new hose seems definately in order.
