3rooker
Well, there have been a few reasons why I haven't been on lately. Working, fishing, and my laptop's hard drive was wiped clean. That sucks. Now, I am in the process of tweaking my laptop's options to the way they were. I lost all data. I lost all my settings (that will take 2 freaking years to redo ) I hate people who make viruses. They can all burn. I don't go to dangerous sites. I keep my laptop clean. I don't open up any weird emails. I know about computers and how to keep them running optimally. Well, my laptop is running again, so the first website I went to, HOOKAHFORUM! Anywho, I will now be posting more regularly again and into the late night. Anywho, just thought I'd burn some steam and let all of you know, I'm back.Take it easy!TX

JonDubya
If you were using Internets Explorer in the past, cease doing so. Firefox or Opera are your only choices. I use Opera and get 0 viruses. It's the most safe browser out there.
Hearsay
Agreed on no IE. You almost certainly know this, but make sure you have solid anti-virus/anti-spyware installed on your computer. AVG has good anti-virus and anti-spyware for free. http://free.grisoft.com/doc/29116/us/frt/
Big Boss
I've come to believe that viruses will find you, instead of the other way around.

I use Norton and I have Live Update on. I use IE and have never had problems in the past. Never had a problem with Norton. I have had numerous problems with McAfee. Anywho, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!TX
Hearsay
Ok, well take my and others' advice then. Switch to firefox and try using AVG. I dislike Norton, and IE is full of security issues.
pboyle
There are a ton of free anti-virus softwares available. I use Avast right now and I think its better than anything I've used before, and I've gone through a couple (not because I had viruses, but just seeking a better product). And yeah, definitely no IE. Read up on it. Its bad news bears.I'm considering looking into using SSL or some sort of tunneling software so I'm untraceable too. There was a big article on digg.com the other day about how hackers can get into your email just by analyzing the data sent to you in an email, and then using your cookies on their computer, thus bypassing any need for a password. And it can be used days later.Just something to consider. If I can find the article, I'll post it. Unfortunately, I didn't digg it I should have Edited August 5, 2007 by pboyle

Kae
AVAST YE MATEY!!No, seriously, Avast has done wonders for my hubby's comp, and we recommend it to everyone we know. I just got an email from my mom last night thanking us for the tip, and saying she hasn't had to swear at her computer once since installing Avast). In all honesty, tho...I don't worry about that shit, because, *ahem*, I have a Mac. I click whatever the hell I want to, and I have never had a problem. Partly because, well, there just isn't much out there that is written for Mac (I have enough trouble getting LEGAL programs that'll run on my OS! lol), and also because my settings require my admin password to do just about anything.Still, I feel your pain, man. Good to have you back, too =]
MechAnt
AntiVir is great too. Its from Europe (Britain i believe) and is one of the best free ones because most viruses originate from Europe anyway so AntiVir is always up to date on new viruses. And it does auto update everyday.
