DrShisha
Hello All! Was in Manchester Rusholme the other night where there are about 8 sheesha cafes. Everyones puffin away , all that theyv done is theres no proper front door so its always open lol, seems like nothings changed! Didnt visit any cafes coz there were loads of us and i make a better 1 than any of em and my cousin has a bedouin tent in his garden where we all chill and watch a movie n smoke n have a chat so dropped by a few cafes to say hi to a few owners that i know. Everything seemed pretty dandy really and the POHLICE dont seem to coming law enforcing or anything like that. To the southern geezer who posted on the thing about smoking in the park, i love to do it, im not arrogant or ignorant or anything like that, but its freedom, if im allowed to do something and its perfectly legal, i would jump at the chance. One day were were smoking a lemon/liqoruice mix and this "thug" type guy all bald big lad came up to us and goes what you doin, we arent the type that scared of such things so we sat him down had a chat with him and he tried it and he was like WOAH IT TASTES LIKE TREBOR BASSETS haha, was well funny, not everyone is intolerant and rude and invade your privacy, you get that kind now n again and you get that with everything, i would continue to smoke in the park but try sit somewhere bit secluded, not in your face like with kids flyin about everywhere. If someone does come up and asks, explain and educate and stay polite, the revolution can done one by one!
oggie505#2
i thought the law said if it has more than 3 sides then it is considered enclosed?? but good to see some shops are still open
Johnny_D
Nice Dr.It's not the Police who would enforce this law anyways. The local council should/will have people who would come around and issue fines (like parking attendants/traffic wardens)However the reality is that they are probably too concerned in upsetting the muslin community to actually enforce anything. Which works for us just fine.Having said that it's a different story in London. And the shisha bars were told they will face fines and that there will be no 'soft policy' for Muslim/middle eastern traditions.JD
amnite
are you sure its a different story, I thought all the smoking bans in the UK include shisha cafes, I know for sure that wales had all there cafes shut down.Anyway DrShisha thanks for the tips! Ill try them next time The buzzing was the point going over your head. You & Me are South england folks. Yes Shisha bars are closed.Up North (Espcially after the riots of a few years ago) they have a different approach to things...middle eastern... And they (The council) will be unlikely to approach shisha bars and impose fines.OPENING A DOOR DOES NOT GET AROUND THE SMOKING BAN.JD
oggie505#2
I know one way around the ban, it is what davidoff does. You can smoke inside, but you are technically tasting a cigar. So maybe the shisha shops in Manchester are doing something like that

It's like this :- Smoking inside? It's Banned.Unlike allmost all uk laws this has been written fairly tight. Even private establishments can be banned from smoking [We were tossing the idea around of creating private members clubs to evade the ban.... but that does not work either. If you have someone employed (including yourself) in an establishment then you cannot smoke]No idea who/what davidoff is.edit :- http://www.davidoff.com/davidoff/countryfi...2&CFTOKEN=0He cannot even keep his website open....?edit2 :- American air bases are exempt Oggie - it's considered american soil. I don't know if that is where this davidoff is based?JD
oggie505#2
Ok, this site http://davidoffoflondon.com/, is down for some reason, but it is the site for the London shop. The website you linked is one of their international sites or something like that. That site has had that message for over a year. Its been a few weeks since i went to the shop, but next time I go I will bring a copy of one of their fliers, and ask them how they got by the law. Trust me I was int he shop after the ban and they have the sign on the doorway, and a few guys were smoking inside

DrShisha
I dont believe its anything to do with riots, its just probably something like, theyr all my mates and they pay me to give them a service this kinda thing. people come in here on their own accord. Thats what i think. Everything was choc a block and there wasnt a cop car in sight. I think everyone knows its silly, in reality people go to a pub or club to DANCE AND HAVE A GOOD TIME AND A DRINK, primarily they dont go there to smoke lol. In a sheesha bar people go there to SMOKE thats why people are there!! They WANT to go and sit there smoking or no smoking, they know what it entails. There are plenty of ice cream parlours etc if they want a desrt but they choose to eat and smoke. Its all wierd and silly, i understand the fag thing, but def not the sheesha smoking. Nevermind eh. No idea what edgeware road is like these days, prob everyone smoking on the streets at night or summat, my guess anyway!
Johnny_D
Fair comment Dr.I would still bet 10:1 that the reason for no one touching the shisha bars is due to cultural sensitivity [And for once it makes sense]I will also reiterate the fact that the police will not enforce the smoking ban. It will be council-appointed officials. JD
Sonthert
I know, I know. California was one of the first smoking bans and we believed the same thing, the police will never enforce it. Initially, they didn't. Then San Diego police climbed on board and enforced it, then other neighboring cities and then the county sheriffs. I remember in the in-between time, hanging out with my friend in the county, an area called Santee (sounds like a type of sewer pipe...thats exactly how living there is!) she was smoking a cigarette in the bar and a sheriff's deputy walked by and said "Hey, Christine, how's it going?"After he walked by, looking for minors in the bar, I said "You're smoking, what if he gave you a ticket?" "They don't do anything", she said, "If I didn't have a light, he would have offered me one."No more. Ban is in full effect and god help you if you are caught smoking. Johnny_D
You may be right. But, currently, this is not the case.It will be viewed not unlike litter dropping, fly tipping, parking fines.Yes, technically the police could, enforce the above. But it is so rare as to be non-existent. These roles are taken upby council based officials. The money received also goes back to the council.Which is why private bailiff's are flourishing (Scum of the earth and should all be shot) unlike court bailiff's who (from all that i can gather are very good) So your smoking fine, if unpaid, will land up in the hands of people like Drake's bailiff's. UK Smokers should be very afraid.JD
Sonthert
They want you to be complacent...don't let them get away with it! Its a bunch of hokum, don't let them get away with it.
Brownman18
its ridiculous, Canada followed suit, i think the private members club would work to thwart it though.Stupid smoking ban, running perfectly nice business out o fbusiness.People dont DUI or do anything stupid from Smoking shisha like they do from Drinking and other drugs. Go figure the harmless stuff they go after, but cigarettes, and alcohol rain supreme lol.. Its just sad that hookah cafe's didnt peak yet, it'd of been amazing to see thm shut them down when they were in their prime.
