boomhauer
most shipping companys get overrun due to the great increase in people sending stuff. usps cant handle the pressure anymore and are spread out too much, they need a lot more done to get up and running again smoothly. although usps for me twice from mahir has been faster than ups would ever be. 2 days to cross the us and be at my door rather than from other places just having to cross 2 states and taking 5+ business days
quakerotis
The standard shipping time is directly related to what zipcode it is going to. Say I was shipping something over to the next state, like I live in Columbia SC, and I was sending it to Atlanta GA. It would only take a day. But if I was sending it to a more rural town with a different zipcode, it might take an extra day even if the town is geographically closer. This is because the hubs are in the main towns and they send out from there. Sometimes it even costs a bit more too if the town is really in the boondocks. Like Erica said, Saturdays are a special day that you have to pay like 12 bucks extra for, and this is only for air packages too. If you shipped something 2 Day Air on a Thursday, but didn't pay for Saturday shipping, it would get delivered on Monday. As far as damaged packages go, it is usually the company that actually packed the package's fault. If you don't put in appropriate packaging material, the box is going to get doogie howzered. So if something got ruined because they used half a box of crappy materials like shredded paper to pack it with, its the company's fault. If it was packed properly (styrofoam peanuts filled to the brim, almost overflowing) but things still got ruined, it could possibly be the shipping company's fault. But really, shipping is like buying a hookah for the most part. If you only pay for ground service, you shouldn't expect it to be right on the money as far as delivery date.edit: sorry to go on and on like that, a few years of working at UPS will do that to you, having to explain everything to angry customers Edited August 1, 2007 by quakerotis
MechAnt
With USPS, it is actually the largest customer to who else but FedEx! Yet, FedEx for me has been only but fast and reliable.
The fabulous Ian
Well! I opened up the banged-up box, and it all seems safe and satisfactory except for the cardboard, so I'm happy. I think I'm going to call UPS and complain about the damage, just to make me feel better. But, just to remind everyone, it's not the actual wait i was complaining about. It was the sort of sneaky switch they pulled on their tracking site, when the estimated delivery suddenly changed to a day later, without saying it was late. I would have been absolutely fine if they'd changed the date, and the status went from On Time to Late, I could have accepted that shit happens. But to say that the package will arrive a day later than what you told me, but it's still on time, that makes me a little cranky. AND to have that done and have it arrive banged up? If I was in the kitchen, and one of the cooks showed up two hours late and without a uniform, I'd just send him home. If I wasn't sure it'd get me nowhere at all, I'd do the same with UPS.But it's okay, no big deal. The stuffs here, it wasn't damaged to the point of unusability, and in about ten minutes I'm going to try Layalina for the first time. Yum. Xyclone
Tell me about it. I ordered AW After 9, AF Mint, and 2 Nammor Hoses from H-S on Monday. It said "Billing Information Recieved" on the UPS tracking site until I checked it this morning, and it was rescheduled to Monday.
Scoop
oh noes, you got your package late...end of the world.honestly. shit happens...no one is happy but to go out of your way and complain. plus whats the point of complaining about box damage...if the contents were damaged you have insurance, if not who cares... Just that the date was switched from the original. But. Uh. Thanks for the concern?
Sonthert
I ordered from a big amazon.com seller and they quoted me ,via amazon.com, 5-8 days. In their company tracking, they quoted me 1-2 weeks. I feel ya!
Erica
Sometimes on the UPS tracking, they will put lets say 8-1. Because that's when they assume it will get to you. They give themselves a certain time frame to actually get you the package without it being late.Standard ground shipping for MOST places is 5 business days. If I sent a package today 8-3 from here to Newport (one city over) The tracking will say 8-4 for delivery, but unless you pay for overnight shipping(which is like 25 bucks more) They have up until 5 days to get it to Newport. So if there is a delay…. They can change the tracking to 8-4 without it actually being “delayed” and have it still be “ontime”Does that make any sense? I use UPS every single day for work. And from what I understand that’s how it works. P.S. Calling about a damaged box is retarded. If the contents inside where messed up that’s a different story…. You can’t expect a box to travel 2000 miles(orr how ever long it went) and not be a little beaten up.

Xyclone
Grrrr, now my Social Smoke order is delayed due to "Adverse Weather Conditions" from Vernon, CA to the Van Nuys, CA hub. Why do I have the feeling that is the biggest bullshit any company has ever given me? We're in Southern California, there's nothing special in the weather.com section going on. What's the deal? I called and they said they will try to get it to me today... rigghhhttt... Edited August 3, 2007 by Xyclone

MechAnt
Umm... EXTREME HEAT! You know, those brown uniforms absorb light and heat like crazy. Don't want those oh so reliable UPS men passing out on the job now do you?My South Smoke order arrived in Vernon, CA on Thursday but I wont be receiving it until tuesday. I don't mind this time because I'm actually not in town until late monday. Still, I don't get how it takes 2-3 business days to drive abour 20 miles.EDIT: It arrived in Vernon on Wednesday!
