Johnny_D
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6914503.stmWorth a read.Basically sums up some of the point's i've been making these past few days.Shisha shops either have, or are going, to close.I am hugely interested in how some of the bars (as discussed by the Dr & Oggie recently) are remaining open with indoor smoking of Shisha or cigars. The Edgeware road association have allready tried the 'culutral' approach and failed.Human rights maybe the next approach?JD
amnite
u know its pathetic the fact they get docters and teachers to have there view on this article, they should do a video like normal bbc news type and go around edgeware ask the people there

boomhauer
next will be some crap like freedom of speech or somthing dumb. really people in the uk have no rights on anything to do with the smoking ban. only way your going to get past it is if tons of people protest but seeing as how smokers are a minority you wont win. im waiting for what happened there to happen in the US, it should be any month now before that happens. Sonthert
I liked the article. Doctors don't know anymore than regular people, they just have paid-for-opinions, both from and for other people. I miss having news sources like that in the U.S.. They used to be all like that, here.
MechAnt
Heh, I actually read this on my own cause I have BBC as my home page and I'm American! I've always liked how BBC tends to stay relatively neutral in international affairs and most of all, they keep their articles short!Anyway, I believe there is an indoor public smoking ban here in the US. But you are allowed to smoke outside. Then again, I went to my first hookah lounge experience last night (I know, my first lounge since I started hookah!) and there was an indoor sitting area where my friends and I were. Law makers should really consider that shisha is a huge part of some cultures and should be sensitive to that. It's the Arabic and Indian equivalent to the French having a glass of wine with dinner. And I liked how they included both sides of the argument by interviewing people that said its more of a social interaction rather than just smoking. chinamon
its weird. we've had a smoking ban in effect for all public buildings here in toronto, canada for quite some time now and the shisha lounges are still open for business. i dunno how they do it. amnite
You know UK is like the oppisite of US. If you know what I mean, the driver of the car is opposite... theres plenty of things. The UK is like a well respected country, they want to show it by enforcing the most powerful smoking ban out there among other countries. So they include shisha no matter what
Ocrap
There has also been a smoking ban in Burbank, CA outside of restaurants. There are no smoking signs in the public streets. What has this world come to?

I live near burbank and I know two or three hookah lounges there and one of them that I've passed by many times is completely outdoor.
