Do Coals And Sealed Shisha Go Bad?

Recommended Posts

shouldnt need to replace hoses, i've had one for two years and it got pretty solid use for 1.5 years..

i have stored shisha for 4-5 months and not had any flavour loss, even if i opened the packaghe and used it sporatically over 4-5 months no problems.

i smoke Nakhla and Al - Waha.

coem to think of it i got a box of nakhla apple thats 8 months old and it smoked beautifully last night.

Well, everything in there is organic, so it's got to start going bad at some point. Glycerin's the only thing I imagine wouldn't, since it's refined so far from it's organic source. But. The curing process keeps tobacco from rotting for damn near ever, and the sugar in the flavoring and honey will act as further preservatives, plus whatever else gets put in to keep it good. So, there's probably no risk of it going bad before you finish smoking the pack. I did keep a bag of Nakhla double-apple open on my tobacco-table for a couple of months after I first read about acclimating. Not much, but I just left a small corner of the bag to keep the humidity level in the bag somewhere close to the humidity of my bedroom, and it started tasting funky at about four months. Though, that's the only flavor I'd been having -for- those four months, so it's entirely possible I was just getting sick of it. happy.gif

as long as you keep your shisha properly sealed and away from direct sunlight and high heat, it should be fine for a pretty long time. I keep my al fakher in the original 250g tub and place that tub in a tupperware and place them in my closet.

As far as coals, they dont go bad. I wouldnt keep them outside because of humidity and moisture. I keep my coals in my closet aswell.

Tobacco, sealed: 3-5 years
Tobacco, open: 3-5 months
Charcoal, gunpowder coals seem to lose their lighting potential after about six months of dampness. Try storing them in the freezer. Other types of coal are pretty stable.
Hoses: I'd say once a year for washable hoses. Rubbery non-soluble flavors accumulate and the only way then can come out is by scrubbing. The rubbery accumulation makes flavors weak and/or obnoxious. Leather hoses tend to absorb these things and keep them out of the way. Lether hoses can last indefinitely. They will actually tear/fall apart and let you know when its time to change them.

coals can defs go bad, i have had experience of it. I was pretty daft, left half a box out by a swimming pool for a week, and they were really bad after that. They didnt light properly, didnt burn red hot, and didnt make white ash, it sorta stayed black. The smoke tasted revolting as well, and it made me feel really ill. Iv been drying them out in a warm dry place for the last couple of weeks, will have to test and see if they are fixed, but im not holding out much hope!

Shisha can keep for about 6 months i think, if you keep it seeled and out of direct sun.

um not to sound like I am bashing you, but I am pretty sure Eric knows what he is talking about as he 1.) owns his own shop 2.) has been smoking hookah for MANY MANY years. Also next time I would recommend keeping the coals away from the pool or any other type of area where there is water. Also in terms of shisha, if you mean sealed in terms of buying it and not opening it at all, it will stay good A LOT longer than 6 months (because like me, many have bought tobacco that was years old from steve and it was good (in general)).

It all depends on the seals, Al Waha has notoriously bad seals, failure rates go up towards 20%. While Al Amir's seals are excellent. If you have a unit of tobacco with a bad seal, it will be useless after six months.

Hooky's six months might be a good estimate for some cases. Edited by Sonthert

yeah, I've had quick lights go back on me before too. I think that the older they are, the more spots you get that are black. When I light a new pack, the coal lights up all the way but will not be red hot immediantly. If I have a roll of coals that I did not finsih and use them the next time, it gets a bit worse. The Sparkler effect is decreased as well as the time it takes the coal to light up. The coal still works but it just doesn't have the power like a new coal that just came out of the box.
