Big Boss
So a friend called me up today and asked me to bring my hookah over to his place tomorrow night. The only problem is that I've lost two of my hose grommets, leaving me with only 1. My friend is the kind of person that won't want to share a hose, so I'll have to think of a way to use two hoses. Is there any material that could be used in place of a rubber gasket/grommet?
boomhauer
go to your local home depot and look in plumbing. that white "tape" that they sell which you put on the pipe threads so it does not leak when you put it on. i used that as a grommet for my bowl before. SafeSearchOff
tape up the part of your hose that plugs into the stem 2 or 3 times around with electrical tape and your set. other alternatives include wet paper towels, dry paper towels, or just shoving the hose in there. boomhauer
teflon tape is what i was talking about. i have used paper towls, i dont like electric tape personally to use.
Big Boss
You said you did that for your bowl, but would that work with a hose? Its a good idea, and I'll most likely do that, (although my "local" home depot is about 90 miles away...) I'll just to the hardware store in my hometown. Any other suggestions?edit: Damn, I wasn't expecting this many replies so fast. Edited August 2, 2007 by Big Boss
boomhauer
it will work fine for your hose. basically im saying it can be used for anything for a sealant as it is decently heat resistant. you can make it as big or as small as needed easily so it will save you effort and will not leave a possibility of any stickiness. SafeSearchOff
i personally totally trust electrical tape. makes a great seal for my al fakher hookah to help out the grommet. nice and tight, works well, waterproof... its super!
Scoop
electric tape sucks. everytime i use it, it just ends up sliding off (not immediately, after a few times) and leaving gluey goo all over. that teflon tape is win though, ive used it for other applications before. its better imo Edited August 2, 2007 by Scoop
spoolinspoon
whenever i'm in a tight bind, I use a damp paper towel as the gasket.
Sonthert
Electrical tape. Don't pull it so tight. Electrical tape tends to slip when its pulled tight. Pull firmly, but not not tightly.
