waffle
I ordered a bag of the Romman Lemon Wood Naturals and havent been too happy. Lighting is simple just a little more involved than the insta lites. I read that natural coals were suppose to be virtually tasteless and more effective than insta lite colas. My expirence with this brand has been less positive. I lite the coal on an electric stove, it gets super hot and red, gives off a slight smokey smell while lighting, and crackles while its being lit. The problem is when I put it on the foil. Upon hitting the taste is very smokey, like burning wood. No shisha flavor at all. Eventually after trying to regulate the heat by adding or subtracting coals or removing wind cover I give up because of the harshness of the smoke. Not sure if its this brand/type of wood or my technique. Any help??
boomhauer
i have never used an electric stove to light a natural coal but im thinking this may be one of the issues with the taste but im not positive. they give no taste unless lit improperly from my trys which will then be smoky. they are a pain to lite and dont last too long and the ash is a very fine white ash which gets into everything. JonDubya
WTF this is a duplicate thread and the original is gone. As I said last time, I just finished using these exact coals, lighting them with an electric stove and had no adverse flavor coming from the coals. The only thing I dislike about the coal is that it is high maintenance; requiring re-lights.Tell us more about your setup and we can help. JoeLipinski
I use a electric stove (a.k.a. hotplate) and I have never had ANY problems as long as you make sure that your coals are 100% grey... they even work without a tainted flavor if you have 2 sides completely grey. My suggestion is to get 2 peices of coal that are about 1 - 1 and 1/2 inches, heat them on the hotplate, wait until they are grey on 1-2 sides flip them over then wait until it is completely grey. turn off your hot plate and put your coals in your ashtray or coal holder of w/e but but the side that was facing downwards up in the coal holder until you get it to you hookah then put the side that was downward on the hotplate facing down on the bowl. place them on the outside of the bowl. (I usually ash the coals in transit between the hot plate and hookah, but it is not necessary.) I hope this helps and if you have any questions feel free to ask. Also in the future I would go with cheaper coals, because generally I have found hookah-shisha branded products (ie romman) to be overpriced and not worth it. waffle
Sorry about this one Mushrat.... Ive been using the foil tech that I posted in How to Funhouse. A double level foil tech (youll have to check it out). When I lite the coals I only light one side until its red hot. I havent been lighting all sides before placing it on the foil. That may be my problem. Ill try have the entire coal red before I use it. Oh and yeah Im using an electric stove. Thanks guys.
