Solid Vs Clear/translucent Bases

So first post on hookah forum (woo) anyway, some fuckers stole the hookah last night!!

Now in the market for a new one, and was looking at some myas on hs. I like a lot of the black bases, but it looks as though you cant see through most of them. I'd like your opinion on this. From experience of the one hookah i've ever smoked, it was nice to be able to see through the base and see how thick the smoke was, and see when it'd dying out. You think it would make any difference?

the problem i hear about a solid color base is the inability to see what your water level is at currently very easily.

yeah, solid colored bases are very ahrd to master the water level due to your lack of sight.
look in the hookah review section, i'm sure itll help you choose a nice new one.

I recently bought the MYA Staff hookah in black. Really its more smokey black than solid. Never have a problem with seeing the water level. And black is very classy.

awesome, good to know. So can you see smoke volume and all through it? we were looking at the phalcor, but were going to settle for the paragon because of the clear part of the base. Also looking at the black ballerina, which would be a lot nicer on the wallet. Although i'm kinda down with the mya, because i know it'll come w/some quality hose(we had mya hoses on the old hookah), and we want a 4 hoser. Also the mya comes with a lot more accessories...not sure if we'll actually use them though. I dont know if the thieves took our tongs/windscreen.

it's really depressing though, we kept the hookah in the breezeway of the house, which is unlocked, but have had no reason to think itd get stolen its such a suburban area. They took the hookah only, while leaving 10 tubs of shisha, and 3 boxes of coals! i guess you can say we were lucky . the fact that the rest of all that was just left there makes me think it was some punk-ass kids that dont know wtf they took, and it was more of a prank than a plan to get a free hookah.

if it's colored glass you can still see the water level. if it's a painted base you wont be able to see anything.

Yeah, smoke volume is visible. So is water level and bubbles when smoking. Its not as viewable as a clear base of course but like I said black just looks so good. I was also looking at the Ballerina. I chose not to purchase that one though because I couldnt accurately estimate the quality of the hookah...also wasnt sure who made it, its available on a few sites. Its got a very cool design though.

If you are going to buy an opaque base, here's one suggestion. When you have mastered the water level, pour it into a water bottle, and mark the height on the bottle. Next time you smoke, just fill up the bottle to the line and pour it in the base. Then, you have the perfect level!

yea! black base all the way. Solid too, that would make for the best in my opinion

Black bases look really nice, but I've had a few bad sessions because I couldn't fill it properly. It's just a hassle.

That water bottle idea is really smart, though, but I've already gone and replaced my old pipe.
