Co Poisoning

Recommended Posts

So from the original thread Where Mr sonthert most defitely put Mr Johnny in his place....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_monoxide_poisoning

I would like an honest opinion.

After smoking for a good two hour session I often have problems climbing the stairs.
With tachycardia. and a Thumping headache.

Often having to sit down for a good 2-3 mins before the tachcardia passes.

Do you think, given the wikipedia information available that i am, in fact, giving myself Co2 poisoning?

is that the only time it hurts? do you exercise and have pains in certain places?

No other Cardiac related pains.

I suffer from high-ish blood pressure.

This *only* happens when i have a good session.

But I also drink heavily when smoking.

well most of the time when theres a pain somewhere it could do with a stenosis (blockage) in the artery or vein, it usually starts off slow and builds up over time, i would have it checked out by a cardiologist which will then have you scanned by echocardiography to see if you have irregular beat or a lack of blood flow somewhere.

I swapped from quicklights to naturals and no more head aches.

the cant walk up the stairs is the liquor ( id rink whiskey or vodka sometiems with it) and often a lack of oxygen to the body aka you constantly take massive hits repeatedly for a session.

well to be safe id just go get it checked out, cant hurt you, u kno? its just i havent smoked for long and i go to school for ultrasound cardiovascular tech and when i scan myself and others that smoke, you do see buildup and possible blockages that COULD develop over the years.

I know it doesn't answer the question but I have to give a +1 to the go have a doc take a look... I avoid my doc like the plague, but whenever the heart is involved have the doc look just to make sure... I've lost too many family and friends to heart related stuff to not take it seriously.

Yeah, me. I don't notice a lot of symptoms other people report from other coals. When I smoke using other coals, from someone else's rig, I get the same bad symptoms they claim to have.

Well, Johnny, talk to a doctor, but smoking in general will do that.

Edit: Its also what happens when lard asses start exercising. Your heart beats faster. Edited by Sonthert

It sounds to me pretty logical.
Smoking restricts blood vessels, and when you start walking up stairs you might be exerting more than your body can handle at the moment.

You know, if you exercise on a regular basis, the heart problems might go away. It can also depend on what mix you're using, as mix with more nicotine will affect your heart more (at least that's what the science behind smoking suggests). Lastly, my heart starts to feel weird if I'm hogging the hookah. Take small breaks during your session. As whoever said, the lack of oxygen can affect your heart.

I don't know about carbon monoxide poisoning with smoking, unless you're only breathing in from the pipe for an hour or two.
To kill yourself with CO, you'd need to sit in your garage with the car running, so it'd have to be a concentrated amount, and I don't think there is CO is hookah smoke. Carbon in smoke is usually shown by a black smoke whereas the hookah smoke is usually white (meaning its clean).

and CO2 is carbon dioxide, which if you were "poisoned" from that, you'd either be breathing it straight as well or hyperventilating. and its been a while since i wrapped my lips around a fire extinguisher.

but i'm sorry that the smoking is giving you trouble. if anything, see a doctor.

CO2 isn't poisonous at all, its an asphyxiant...it displaces oxygen from the total pressure of air.

Thats a good observation actually, Carbon monoxide is generally associated with sooty residue and production, as in if you notice your furnace burning with a thick, lazy, yellow flame and you see a lot of black soot everywhere, its a extremely dangerous sign. It is still possible to instead of burning with almost no carbon monoxide produced, producing more carbon monoxide and less carbon dioxide. If we were on the other equation, just carbon burning to carbon monoxide, then we would notice changes for the worse as having an oily black smoke, replete with soot.

Ive noticed the headaches more with "higher quality" tobacco, like Tangiers. I dont know if its because it has more glyercine or what. I almost never get headaches with Nahkla, which was my main smoke for quite a while.

hey, i know my smoke
Eagle Scout FTW

But I'd suggest everyone take caution, regardless of experience. I smoked with my friend tonight and he hit the deck walking to his car. He's a newbie but it could happen to anyone.

Oh, and it was Smiley's irish cream that made him friendly with my front lawn, in case anyone is interested.

Use to have the same problem Johnny. You're just not getting enough ventilation. Open a window in your smoke room or go outside. You'll find that problem will go away as soon as you get enough fresh air when you smoke. At least I did anyway...
