Anything About Hookah And Co2?

Recommended Posts

I was abroad and I went to a shisha lounge. I was skimming through the different types of hookahs they offered and they acutally offered a replacement for the water in the base. Instead of water they offered to use Co2. When i smoked smoked it, it was soo smooth and cool. Does anyone know how to do this, or where to get this product?

Is this guy for real?

Co2 = Carbon Dioxide.
Carbon Dioxide is what you exhale, what plants inhale, and what makes up a good portion of our atmosphere.

You dont smoke it.
You dont use it for water.
You dont put it in a hookah.

Solid Co2 is called dry ice; which is dangerous.
If they put dry ice in your hookah, you're lucky to be alive.

Well technically we breath in CO2 all the time so it shouldn't really kill someone. When you light a fire your breathing in co2, exhaust from cars, etc. I think you guys are thinking about carbon monoxide, which can kill you.

yeah but u dont directly take it in like out of a hookah base, people commit suicide like that with their car running in the garage and just sit in it.

Hypercapnia (from the Greek hyper = "above" and kapnos = "smoke"), also known as CO2 Poisoning, is a condition where there is too much carbon dioxide (CO2) in the blood. Carbon dioxide is a gaseous product of the body's metabolism and is normally expelled through the lungs. Edited by lilbrownindian

You know how miners would take canaries into the mines with them? What do you think killed the canaries?

Well people weren't getting sick or dying in that lounge, so how exactly did they get that smoke cooled down so much then? I remember it emitting lots of gas and I'm pretty sure it wasn't simply ice.

Its called Indulge and its in Karachi, Pakistan.

And I don't think they'd listen if you called.

i dont think he was really going to call pakistan but if he was only to ask what they had in the base

Exactly....My friend is from there and could talk to them about there store and other pointless stuff, and finally ask about other liquids in the base and if they use anything else.
I'm pretty sure they would listen...a business rarley turns away customers.

So they used Co2 INSTEAD of water? How is that possible? Isn't that like smoking off a car exhaust pipe or something?

dry ice undergoes a process called sublimination... there is not liquid form. gas and solid.

i'm not sure if this guys for real. carbon dioxide is okay in small doses, but its a pretty dangerous gas in large quantities.
as for making the smoke better, im also not sure. there gets a point where smoke gets too cold. when it hits that point the smoke becomes incredibly harsh and just rips your throat apart, a temperature that would probably be easily achieved by dry ice.
i'm not sure that it would be deadly from a session of smoking, but you would definately feel its effects. like hyperventilating, your heart racing extremely fast, and other effects of that nature.

Sounds like they put ice in the water, and you were dumb enough to buy it being dry ice.

If you were to put dry ice in the base of the hookah, here is what would happen:

Scenario A:
1. Put dry ice in base of hookah.
2. Dry ice super-cools glass of base, causing a stress fracture, breaking the base.

Scenario B:
1. Put water in base of hookah, then add in dry ice.
2. Dry ice sublimates virtually immediately
3a. water is rapidly cooled, possibly freezing, Co2 is given off
3b. Co2 exits base either through top (if no stem is on ), or through purge valve/hose if stem is already on.

in any case, all you have done is
A: cool the water, making it as effective as regular ice
B: expose yourself to possible toxic inhalation of Co2.

Also, dry ice sublimating quickly (in water, for example) can build up massive amounts of pressure.
These are called dry ice bombs:

I'm going to have to have one of my friends who lives there to go and ask them now. I've had ice filled hookahs and hookahs with ice water in them before, but this shisha they made was just amazing, coolest and smoothest smoke ever. It was nothing comparable to ice or ice/water combo.

This is just a thought but couldn't you replace the water wit like tonic water because that has co2 bubbled into it but, it would go flat very soon after your smoking session so i donno how that would work
But its just an idea

yes, you can, but have you ever shaken a soda bottle?
once you start hitting the hookah all the Co2 in the water will bubble up to the top, and again exit through the hose, or the purge vale.
