First Session - Aw Orange Cream - My Diva .ow. Harsh

Ok - so i had my first session tonight which lasted a whole 20 minutes before the harshness got to me. Firstly, my mya diva has a pretty lloose seel and im not quite sure why ... every review ive seen says they are solid ... anyways ... i [packed my bowl to the rim of my mya bowl and used a single golden quicklite .. the first 5 hits were good and then it got harsh ... when i finished and took off the foil, the shisha had burnt right to the foil ... how come? too hot?? Anyone can offer me a little help or advice??

any more detail on how you set up your bowl?

how do you add the shisha to your bowl?
how high, exactly did you fill it? you may have over filled it.
are you using a screen or alum foil? if you are using alum foil, what was your hole pattern, and with what utensil did you create them with? how big were the holes?

Try leaving a gap between the foil and the tobacco. Also, are the coals 40mm or 33mm?

I broke all the pieces apart and sprinkled it in ... it was very loose ... I used alum foil and used the poked on the end of my tongs to poke the holes ... 33mm Edited August 8, 2007 by dank7oo

how many holes, and how big?

try filling the bowl less.

any other variances when you set up your hookah?
did you use ice water? if so, you may have used too much ice.
you can also try warm water, i find that it can make it harder to become harsh.

seems like you might have packed the bowl too high. leave a little more room between the coal and the shisha.

Did you rotate? Even with quicklites, I take care to start working it around the bowl to get it started properly. When the bowl is hot, you don't have to rotate much, only to eliminate the harshness.

ahh yes a good point.

dont keep the coal in the same place for prolonged amounts of time. every 10 ot 15 minutes move the coal to a new position to equally burn yo' shisha.

I did rotate ... but that didnt help .. the shisha was actually bunt to the foil after so i was getting a mega brunt taste ... thanks for the help though guys ... ill try again tomorrow

i always pack my bowls right to the top... not overflowing but to the top... one sheet of foil with about 20-25 random holes and one whole 3king 33mm.. i dont get burnt taste through the whole bowl.. i do this for havana. nakhla and al fakher..

pretty simple now that you told me that....to much shisha, if its sticking and top layer is flatout burnt, its simply to much.

Another question ... how tight should my grommets be on the stem??? Also, if they are loose should i tape my stem to make the seel tighter??

i like my grommets to be pretty tight, but if they're loose it shouldnt be a problem, as long as the seal is airtight.
if you want a tighter grip get some elctrical tape and wrap it around a few times. works great.

like everyone said, leave a small gap between the shisha and foil and also, try double foiling.

Here are a couple things Ive tried in the past...

-Lots a little holes in the foil
-Break the coals into halves
-Try ice and other liquids in the base
-Regulate heat by reducing coals, vise versa, and adding or removing wind screen

-As for the seals...on the hose and bowl try wrapping a bit of napkin around the grommits

if your grommets are loose use a small strip of wet paper towel and wrap it around the grommet. Makes a good, airtght seal.

You can easily test your grommets. Simply place your hand over the top of the stem, with the bowl off. Then blow into your hose. You may have some small amount of air going through your valve, but you shouldn't be able to blow easily.

I sometimes will do this when smoking as well. (Never do it when sharing a multi hose and with other people smoking). Then you can see if the smoke is leaking. I had a weak fit on my bowl grommet for instance, which I found this way.
