Kae
There have been several shisha flavors I have tried over the past 3 months, that have come highly recommended by friends, lounges, forums, etc. I have been so unimpressed with all of them! The handful of flavors I tried on a whim, I have loved. So, I'm thinking maybe I'm doing something wrong...because the only other problem could be with my MOUTH, hehe. For example, After Nine...everyone loves it, I have not talked to a single person that didn't rave about it. to me, it tastes very much like a sweet pipe tobacco, and nothing else. AW Orange Cream tasted faintly of rotten orange peels, and Layalina Black Grape had a very mild grape jelly flavor. I'm pretty sure it isn't my heat management, because I have tried a thousand different things, have had other, more experienced smokers manage the heat, and still, unimpressive. The only flavors I have been really happy with is Layalina mango (my fave), and...Africano Kiwi (al waha, I *think*).I clean my hookah religiously, and I even got a new hose, thinking maybe it was because my hose isn't a washable one (I made a washable one, it's so neat, hehe). So, this is pretty much just a rant (but feel free to make a suggestion if you have one). I'm frustrated. I think I have tried about 35 flavors of various brands in the past 4 months, and I have two, TWO flavors that I really like?? I'm wondering if maybe my tastebuds are just numbed (I'm a heavy cigarette smoker, as well). Been thinking of trying some of the unwashed, like, I really wanna try Tangiers, because most have told me it's the most flavorful, but, tbh, I'm not about to drop the cash for 250g of something I don't know I will like *sigh*< /vent >
3rooker
Hey Kae, some people take flavors differently. I'm sure you know that. But 35 flavors?! That's more than Bascin Robins! Wow. If you don't put ice in the water, try ice in the water. If that doesn't help, than it's probably your mouth lol.TX
SafeSearchOff
I too suffer from Hookah Tastebud Defficiency... or HTD for short, although my case doesnt seem quite as acute as yours since i still get great flavor just not as much as people describe.I have found a temporary cure for HTD though. Press the tip of the hose against the inside of your cheek (don't have to do it hard, just apply a little pressure, yeah?), place tongue next to hole in hose, and inhale deep. I normally find this gives a HUGE burst of flavor. Solving the problem of HTD. FOREVER.

jelatin
The brands you listed above are not particularly flavorful. Most of my friends dislike AW and Layalina because it has very little flavor, try smoking some more flavorful brands.Romman and Starbuzz are sure to give off some flavor. If you really want to taste it, try some Romman flavor mixes, or maybe some rose or plum(grape). Starbuzz Irish Cream is sure to leave the nice creamy taste of bailey's in your mouth. Anything lemon by either of them will be tasty as well.
blueyesopn
alwaha is extreamy flavorful as long as you deal with it right. that is why they are hard to tell when they are too hot till they do burn.all thiongs are to waitt, and let it smoke.as i said before, clear your palit. get some turkish coffie betweeen breahts
waffle
Perhaps try experimenting with different liquids in the base. At the moment I am smoking Laylina mint with selzer water, ice and a couple shots of Grenadine Cherry Syrup in the base. I call it Mint Cherry Fizz. shisha fan
i`m feeling ya (well not literally, but you know what i mean) i too am suffering from this. i think it may have to do with the fact that i also smoke cigarettes and cigars. but it could also be the shisha just dried out, that`s why i`m not going to order so much at once anymore. stryet
Yup, this is starting to happen to me too. I'm starting to have to mix with mint just to taste anything. I think sometimes you just need a break from shisha (yeah, right) in order to get a taste for it again. I went a whole 48 hours, and my AF strawberry tasted soo good, even without mint.Good luck buddy, I'm with you.

Blue Midnight
Starbuzz Mint Chocolate Mint is a million times more flavorful and better than after nine. After nine is a pretty crappy flavor if you ask me. Try SB Choc. Mint. If you can't taste that, there is something seriously wrong with your tastebuds. Calcartman
Guys, it doesn't matter if she liked after-nine or not. she tried 34 other ones too.Smoking 35 flavors and finding only 2 you like is either being really picky, or dying tastebuds.i have the problem occasionally when i smoke too much hookah in too short a time, and my taste buds kinda lose their sensitivity. Then it all just tastes like smoke.Maybe take a few days off and see?
Scoop
starbuzz baileys irish cream is nasty =/ it smells amazing, it tastes like bad coffee. i pretty much smoke the same tobacco now a days...most of them just taste like crap. buy tangiers, better than buying the other crap and its fairly priced. Head Mahone
Heavy cigarette smoking will hender your tasting/smelling ability. One of the big problems for those that quit is that food taste so much better to them after a couple of weeks that they eat more and gain weight. I'd say kick the cigarettes babe, shisha is so much better...Head
Sonthert
If you have a common chamber hookah, that is the hose port and the vent are connected to a hollow bell, together, that would need cleaning. It can't be gotten to directly with a brush...a way to tell is to blow through the hose while you are smoking. The thing should vent smoke, obviously, but a common chamber won't clear the smoke from the top of the jar, only the inside of itself. A dedicated chamber will blow the smoke out of the top of the jar, too. Also, during the warmer months, flavors tend to be more muted, especially if you smoke outside, because the ambient temperature the water in the hookah settles down to is higher. But, I tend to get rather..."floppy", when I am drunk, and I think I'd end up breaking it, or catching the place on fire, lol.Maybe I'l try, like, not smoking for several hours before lighting the hookah. Like a nicotine fast, lol....Then, I'll be craving so hard, I won't care WHAT it tastes like (unless it's mint....I severely dislike any smoke that is minty or "menthol").It's nice to see that I am not the only one that doesn't "get" the After Nine craze X]I have tried Starbuzz Irish Cream; it's the only Starbuzz I have tried, actually. I liked it a lot at first. Idk, maybe it's getting old? I've had it for about 3 months. It also leaves a heavy stale flavor in my hookah, that is pretty difficult for me to get out.The Romman I have was pretty lame, in my opinion; it had flavor, but it wasn't particularly good flavor (I have cherry and coconut).A friend of mine (the one that got me into hookah), has suggest I try Havana...I think I'll try that next. I have the benefit of living in an area where I can get ALMOST every brand of shisha locally, and it's all about the same price ($2-3 per 50g, excepting Starbuzz, because it doesn't come in 50g).Doesn't Tangiers have a place in, like, San Diego, or something? Is that like a lounge, or a warehouse, or....?Oh yeah, I've also put a LOT of things in the vase. Ice, juice, vitamin water, milk (yuck), and liquor....we actually really liked the winter flower with a bit of port in the vase, that was really good (and strong!), but it took FOREVER to get that flavor outta the hookah, lol.
