Spotless
So I decided to not clean my hookah right away last night and break it down for storage, and today when I went to do so the stem is "sealed" into the shaft? What am I to do in this situation? Has this happened to anyone else on the forum?
matt
since many use stem and shaft interchangably perhaps you need to explain it in another way? or pictures would help... also what kind of hookah is it? that could help too
Spotless
The stem is the one they sent me; (the downstem into the base), and that is "sealed" to the shaft of the hookah. The hookah itself is the ballerina from hookah.com thehookah.com/store/product.php?productid=16302&cat=255&page=
blueyesopn
i asume you mean the stem itself breaks down.use hot water on the main piece
Ocrap
Sealed as in stuck? I've had that happen to me. My second hookah was the Mya Saray original (I think) and the middle shaft would not come apart. I had to get the pliers out every time I wanted to clean my hookah. It was very aggravating. Before I thought of pliers, I used to cut my hands on the shaft trying to take it apart. Lol, the whole stem is scratched up from the pliers. matt
yeah ill second the hot water... im guessing the stem cooled overnight and contracted over the base. its gonna haveta be pretty hot though
Spotless
yeah I wanted to take apart the whole hookah down to put it in the box it came with (what i meant by break down), and the stem would not budge. Got the pliers out and just made a ton of scratches but no movement; then I soaked it in hot water for 10 minutes, and finally tried wd40 on it but still no give in it. What happened? Is it rust or what?
Spotless
should I try boiling water?
chinamon
i dont think every hookah has a stem that can disconnect from the shaft.the stem on my 20" egyptian from socialsmoke is welded on to the shaft.
blueyesopn
contraction from heatif you ever do get it off, here is what you do. get a chunk of wax, like a candle or such. a soft wax like bees wax should work great. rub it into the threads. this should solve your problem nextime
Spotless
well this wasnt the first time that I had smoked out of it. I have had it for about a month, it came not attached and has always come apart before so it would fit in the box, just now it doesn't want to for some reason. I did this a few times until it was piping hot (had to wear gloves), and then got the pliers out. Went at it with those and put a few more scratches on the stem but they finally came apart. There was a wierd "gunk" on both the shaft and stem threads, I simply cleaned that off with rubbing alcohol and then ran boiling water over both parts again (to clean the alcohol). now I just have to find wax. hmm

Sonthert
Just clean it with the downstem in place...almost every hookah I own doesn't have a disconnectable downstem. You're just asking for more scratches, until you strip the threads. I would think it serves no purpose to disassemble it...none that I can think of... Spotless
well the purpose was so it would fit in the box for ease of travel. I dont have a hookah bag so I would have to risk breaking the base by carrying it around fully assembled.
