Vinegar

Does anybody use vinegar to clean their hookah stem? Lately I've been using lemon juice, but i wanna now if vinegar will work too? I think I heard a rumor that vinegar repels rust too? It's also a little cheaper than lemon juice.

I use white vinegar to clean my stem and base. It works very well. Here's how I do it...

I use about a tablespoon in the base then add warm water until half full. I cover the mouth and give it a good shake, then I fill it to the top. I then work my base brush for a little bit and dump the base out. I then refill it half way with warm water again and shake it, then fill it and dump it out. It will have no smell at all afterwards.

I run hot water down the stem for a minute or so then put some vinegar on the stem brush and run it in and out of the stem a few times. Then I run hot water down the stem again and rinse the brush off with hot water and run it inside the stem again. I then rinse the stem out with hot water again. There are no smells or tastes left in the stem afterwards. Edited by Dunkel!

Vinegar is great. I don't know about anti rust but its a great deodorant. What is the greatest deodorant that I know of is actually Vodka. Any sort of drinking alcohol is great and only very little is needed. I keep two bottles of Grey Goose around and one is solely for hookah cleansing. Beer works too.

Only the best for my hoookah! My friends were so thoughtful and for my birthday, all my presents were alcohol. I got 7 bottles of Grey Goose sitting in my desk drawer (its an alcohol drawer), 2 Silver Patron, 3 Gold Patron (Tequila is my favorite hard liquor), 5 cases of Corona (my fav beer), and Smirnoff Triple Distilled. I have the best friends a guy could ask for smile.gif

EDIT: Man, I sound like an alcoholic. Edited by MechAnt

Share the wealth. I can barely afford to drink a step up from Dark Eyes!

my idea of a good cleaning solution (untested though) would be first using coke (the acid in it) to get any of the particles and stuff from the stem and everything shake coke, brush, then vinegar/water, shake, brush, water. then just use vinegar/water for the base.

I find vinegar the best after trying almost everything.
Alcohol
lemon juice
Pure water
Vodka

Vinegar removes all the smells and nasty stuff from your hookah.
I use it in every part of my hookah except the hose.
if you put vinigar into the hose it will probably destroy it

I use 1 part vinegar and 3 parts hot water. I let the stuff sit in the base for a hour or over night. I run some vinegar through the stem with some hot water. I have tried EtOH and lemon juice, I find vinegar works the best. It is also the most cost effective.

Vodka, $10.00 per gallon; lemon Juice $6.50 a gallon; vinegar $3.00 a gallon.

I say vinegar is the best for cleaning my hookahs. tongue.gif

If you can find it, buy a vinegar conentrate (I only know one brand, Surig) and you can mix very little vinegar with lots of water and have it equal regular vinegar and water but a lot more to clean with.
