I Pulled The Trigger On The Km Tri-metal

I bought a couple from Hookah Company, I believe they are coated steel, like every other Egyptian pipe now. The Amers at HC are an old stash of brass core pipes...although the styling and construction on the tri-metal is much nicer, in my opinion. Interestingly enough, KM got rid of the long flange from the bottom of the bell with the brass cores...the bottom of the shank bells look normal-ish now.

I believe all the steel called stainless steel is really coated or galvanized (nickel or zinc plated). It protects against rust...until the layer rubs off.

Not to dispute with the Hookah Master himself, but this is the actual ad copy cut and pasted from the site.......

<H6 style="DISPLAY: inline">32" Tri-Metal Khalil Mamoon</H6>
This is a unique and well crafted Egyptian hookah manufactured by the renowned company, Khalil Mamoon. The stem is constructed with 3 metals. It is composed of a copper center with a brass core and a stainless steel down tube, tray, and accents. The hose is a 65 inch long leather Khalil Mamoon with wood and plastic inserts. This is a solid hookah with a wide gauge check valve and hose ports. Khalil Mamoon makes the best Egyptian hookahs on the market and they are proud of their product. They display their name on the glass, stem and tray

So if the core isn't brass........ Somebody got some 'splain'in to do!

It looks as though it would be brass...I'll look again, but I'm pretty sure, lovely lady, thats its a "stainless steel" center which is actually galvanized/plated/coated. All hookah retailers refer to it as stainless steel...but its not. Stainless steel is a homogeneous alloy, not one metal electroplated on to another metal. The pipe does have brass on it...I don't think the core is brass. I think George even told me that all new KMs are going to steel...away from the old brass cores. If you look on the spartan styling of the Amer, you can see that a similiarly priced pipe that has a brass core versus one that does not, the amount of money in the base metals, the finish and styling of a steel core pipe will be superior, if the pipes were manufactured at roughly the same point in history (I have some all brass hookahs that are slick and solid...but these don't exist, at least in the US, anymore). So, I guess what I'm saying is that the tri-metal looks too good to be a contemporary brass-core hookah.

It is a very nice pipe. You made a good selection.

Well, I had to have a great pipe to smoke all that great Tangiers from! Seriously..... I'm curious to hear the final determination, although stainless steel is also inert, so I don't know what difference it would make in smoking.

Well, I would definitely say they weren't stainless steel. I looked at the interior pieces, downstem, etc. Looks like steel. Specifically, look at the taper and the metal its made of. Don't look at the top-plate (for the tray).

I just ordered one of these today ! Pretty excited as this will be my first hookah.... I spent 35 bucks at the hookah bar this weekend and realized its gonna be much cheaper to just buy my own pipe and shisha .... Everyone on here seems to like KM's so hopefully I made a good choice ....
